I definetly recommend it. It also has many more settings , features than newpipe . It is in the main repo . Just search pipepipe .

FYI: Newpipe is NOT a youtube fork. It's an app build from scratch.

i meant client. Accidently typed fork because i was talking about a fork . Anyway its now fixed in the post.

[-] mnmalst@lemmy.zip 6 points 7 months ago

Ah yeah that makes more sense. :) Cheers

I think at this point, what's needed is a wiki page comparing the various forks and options. I'm not a heavy *Tube user, and I can't keep track.

AFAICT, there are at least five active Tube front-end apps:

  • NewPipe
  • NewPipe x Sponsorblock
  • FreeTube (the only one that isn't a NP fork)
  • Tubular (how does this differ from MP x SB?)
  • PipePipe

Active, committed maintainers are one of the most important features of any such tool, as Google constantly works to sabotage alt front-ends and timely work-around updates are critical. But some sort of feature comparison matrix would be nice.

Tubular (how does this differ from MP x SB?)

NewPipe x Sponsorblock is dead and Tubular is the continuation of it by the same author.

Interesting. I'm still using NewPipe x Sponsorblock and haven't had any issues with it. Any idea why the change? It looks more or less identical.

Ah. Thanks.

My YouTube use is quite limited. I was using the no longer maintained Newpipe Sponsorblock, recently switched to Tubular (rework of aforementioned). I also use Freetube Cordova and Invidious through UnTrackme.

Is there a reason for me to switch to this other fork? I watch probably 5-10 minutes a month.

[-] THEDAEMON@lemmy.ml 4 points 7 months ago

Can't talk about the others but it is defenetly more polished , stable and better than invideous in my opinion .

[-] Cheradenine@sh.itjust.works 3 points 7 months ago

OK, thanks, I will take a look

[-] mnmalst@lemmy.zip 4 points 7 months ago* (last edited 7 months ago)

Oh shit I had no idea Newpipe Sponsorblock was archived I still use it quit a bit. Any idea what happened there since the dev seemed quit active.

*edit: Also, is there a new maintained Newpipe fork with Sponsorblock integrated?

[-] Cheradenine@sh.itjust.works 11 points 7 months ago

I wasn't following it too much but I think they wanted to rewrite it. So, from the same developer is Tubular.

[-] mnmalst@lemmy.zip 1 points 7 months ago

Ah perfect thanks. I searched for Tubular but couldn't find anything.

[-] beSyl@slrpnk.net 14 points 7 months ago

Why is this better than NewPipe? I much prefer apps that focus on 1 thing and dont support 20 additional services.

[-] AceFuzzLord@lemm.ee 3 points 7 months ago

It's great for people who like vocaloid because you can listen to your favorite songs across yt, niconico, and even bilibili.

I know a few different people who have a few of their songs made using vocaloid and other related software on yt but the majority of their work is on one of the other platforms and pipepipe is so much more convenient than having both the niconico app and bilibili app installed.

Here's its link

EDIT : it supported channel tabs before NewPipe added them and also shows comment replies.

Great recommendation I was able to import over my stuff from newpipe x Sponsorblock. Nice to get comment replies working for the first time.

[-] THEDAEMON@lemmy.ml 3 points 7 months ago

Glad you are having a good experiance .

[-] BlanK0@lemmy.ml 9 points 7 months ago* (last edited 7 months ago)

Thx for the recommendation, this seems to be pretty great, specially to access other services like bilibili and niconico without spyware alongside youtube 🤙

[-] THEDAEMON@lemmy.ml 2 points 7 months ago

Just installed it. Seems pretty slick. Haven't tried the import from youtube yet though

[-] LoveSausage@lemmy.ml 4 points 7 months ago

I thought tubular was the newpipe continuum?

I'm using pipepipe and libretube, newpipe can't view the live recordings on some content which is a shame but I think if libretube is more recommendable.

Has anyone tried LibreTube (F-Droid link)? It uses the Piped API, which is an alternative YouTube frontend.

What is the api URL to get sponsor block working? I've tried like 4 different ones based on the docs, but can't figure it out.

[-] nailoC5@lemy.lol 4 points 7 months ago

After I enabled Sponsorblock it took a couple of days for it to actually start working for some reason. But the default one (https://sponsor.ajay.app/api/)should work eventually.
