Don't want this to be misconstrued as a criticism, but what was the reasoning behind going with this wheel design? Seems like even a modest rubberization would have allowed the rover to go hundreds or thousands of miles before damage. Is the environment really that harsh? UV rays would have disintegrated the rubber? Might Google later.
