This is a short response to this red herring argument.

Yes, males victims EXIST. I see LGBTQ+ men (especially of the trans variety) being shamed for being "unmanly", male rape victims exist, male domestic abuse victims exist, there are categories where men are shamed in for being male in that field such as nursing, housewifery, cooking, etc. The reality is that women suffer more. The vast majority of victims of rape, domestic abuse, and sexism are women due to the system being designed to subjugate women.

Does it make male suffering any less tragic? No, it doesn't.

It's also an identitarian argument. If we analyze WHY those behaviors exist, we end up tracing it back to patriarchy. Denigrating a man nurse comes directly from denigrating women, denigrating care work done by women, denigrating men who support women, etc. Yes man victims exist, and they exist because of patriarchy. The existence of man victims validated the feminist hypothesis

Damn, didn't know this.

Rape is bad. Respect and bodily autonomy are important values towards how we treat people.

It's just a shutdown tactic. They don't want to discuss why men have even more difficulty getting help in these situations compared to women, they just want to shut you up.

Obviously men can be victims of domestic abuse and sexual assault, I don't really see anyone arguing otherwise who isn't a bad troll and I agree with what you have said, it's a really disingenuous argument and I would argue a strawman as well. The dismissal of male victims is primarily due to the patriarchy and misogyny itself. The ones who seem to dismiss male victims the most are other men who act like the victim should have enjoyed it (see literally any comment section under an article about a female teacher being arrested for raping a male student), it is because historically and contemporarily men are expected to enjoy and want sex and be the dominant group within society.

Yeah. Same for the folks who concern troll abt toxic femininity - ignoring the fact it's literally why feminism exists to begin with.

Come to think of it. Patriarchy conditions men to hide their sufferings, which is why they get underreported.

I'm actually not quite sure your point. Any act of violence is terrible.

the way u paint is as if this was some kind of small issue but the lastest numbers from the cdc on this stuff on the usa says that 1 in 10 men have been forced in their lives to penetrate someone and round about naming aside thats rape and 26% men have experience violence from an intimate partner those are by no means small or dismissable numbers, the fact that they are significantly lower than the numbers for women does all of the sudden make it a non issue that isnt worth talking about. women make up at most a sizeable majority by no means are the numbers so heavenly skewed that people should be dismissed out of hand when they bring up the fact that male victims exists especially when u consider that there are withing a rounding error NO resources or support networks for male victims.

No I didn't. I literally said women suffering more doesn't make male suffering under patriarchy any less tragic.

i wasn't referring to that i was talking about scale like the actual numbers of it the words u use and the way you say it minimizes the literally physical scale of how many men are affected by this

"...only a feminist vision that embraces feminist masculinity, that loves boys and men and demands on their behalf every right that we desire for girls and women, can renew men in our society. Feminist thinking teaches us all, males especially, how to love justice and freedom in ways that foster and affirm life. Clearly we need new strategies, new theories, guides that will show us how to create a world where feminist masculinity thrives." - bell hooks, The Will to Change

Welcome to our community dedicated to fostering discussions on the complexities of contemporary masculinity within the context of the prevailing patriarchy. This space is designed to empower men and men-aligned individuals to explore, challenge, and navigate the various facets of masculinity that they encounter. Here, we encourage open dialogue, where members can share their personal struggles, seek and offer guidance, and exchange insights on cultivating positive and productive approaches to masculinity.

Porn addiction is an epidemic, however, and we support comrades being open and honest about their experiences with it.

  3. Constructive discussions: Encourage thoughtful and constructive discussions. Engage in active listening and consider different perspectives. Disagreements are welcome, but maintain a respectful and civil tone.

  4. No personal attacks or harassment: Avoid personal attacks, insults, or any form of harassment towards other community members. Be mindful of the impact your words may have on others.

  5. Trigger warnings and content warnings: Use trigger warnings (TW) or content warnings (CW) when discussing sensitive topics to create a safe space for all members. Respect others' boundaries and be mindful of potentially triggering content. If asked to place a trigger warning, it is probably time to place one.

  6. No promoting or glorifying violence: Do not promote or glorify violence, including threats or acts of physical, emotional, or psychological harm. Encourage non-violent and compassionate approaches to conflict resolution when possible.

  7. Relevant and meaningful content: Share content that is relevant to the community's focus on feminist masculinity. Posts should contribute to meaningful discussions, provide insights, resources, or personal experiences that align with the community's goals.

  8. No spam or self-promotion: Avoid excessive self-promotion or spamming the community with unrelated content. Share resources or personal experiences in a balanced and respectful manner. Post related content to your heart's content.
