1 possible hurdle to entry is picking an instance. I wanted to say "Just pick any instance." but there are instances with no downvote feature. There are instances without porn. We can say "Just pick sopuli.xyz." It's a 👍 general suggestion. I didn't know that the instances are different when I signed up on Lemmy. Someone suggested lemmy.world. I followed him and here I am.

I used to use xubuntu on a very old (more than a decade old sony laptop) but an os update broke some of the software I used. Switched to mxlinux (with xfce). More bloated but at least it works out of the box
