As someone who loves snarking on both TBP & alicia, I was very VERY put off by the holier than thou attitudes in the alicia sub after birdies got shut down about the levels of snark. “Oh that’s why we have the rules that we have” you are not better than any of us, k thanks! There are still plenty of comments daily on that sub that teeter the line of being fatphobia, let’s not act above it all. Sorry I just had to get that off my chest & I’m glad to be here. ❤️

I was just thinking about that earlier today, after reading through comment after comment attacking her appearance. They don't even flirt with fatphobia, they openly practice it and say horrible things about her appearance constantly including:

Big forehead, big chin, meaty fists, frizzy hair, sweat slick around her legs, needs to wear absorbent underwear on her head, foul, doesn't wash, thin, stringy hair, parched, still nothing special, Jay Leno wants his chin back, comments about overeating, she's a feral beastie...it goes on and on.

I see much worse "bullying" there on a daily basis than I ever saw on TBP snark, so not sure where their attitude is coming from. I stopped participating in that sub because it was mostly all about insulting her looks and not about what makes her problematic.

Exactly! Alicia is an asshole. She’s a mean, vindictive bully. I’d bet she always has been. There is plenty to be critical of besides her appearance.

[-] Stringcheese@lemmy.ca 18 points 3 months ago

Ya like how she constantly is editing herself to be smaller & causing body dysmorphia since she doesn’t disclose her true clothing size but the comments going on about how repulsive they find her are just..😬😬😬 I have no words.

Definitely agree with this. There are some good conversations on there but most of it is just garbage gossip. They are no better than any other snark sub. Snarking is snarking.

[-] Spicykitty@lemmy.ca 14 points 3 months ago

This is how I feel with many other snark subs. I've always felt ours was by far the tamest snark I have personally seen, because the majority of the posts that did touch on appearance were moreso observations about the editing and the difference in her real appearance vs what she posted

Some of them were trying to blame Janette and that really got my blood boiling but I wasn’t going to pick any fights over there. It does seem that some have an agenda of some kind but I can’t figure out why.

I despise Alicia but I never participated in any of the fat shaming and agree that sub has no moral high ground to stand on. I also think they’ll be next once Alicia figures out how Sarah did it.

1000%. I was so disheartened. I had to comment on a thread that was basically blaming it all on the mods. Fuck right off with your “this is why we have the rules we do”. There wasn’t near the pressure and attention on Leakys sub compared to all the eyes on birdies. We were under a microscope. I used to love that place, but I’m over it now.

I honestly feel it’s just a matter of time for them too 🙄

[-] Cheesecake@lemmy.ca 17 points 3 months ago

There are some foul and awful comments in that sub. They just hide it all in a weekly thread. I’d argue that they aren’t even teetering the line of fatphobia, some comments are flat out fatphobic. I guess we have a new need to discuss where do we draw the line on snark pages?

[-] FraudulentFruit1@lemmy.ca 15 points 3 months ago

I never got the impression any comments were being monitored over there! 100% body shaming

[-] Bitchwhiskers@lemmy.ca 14 points 3 months ago* (last edited 3 months ago)

100% agree. It was nasty.

Oh that sub is totally fat phobic. Not teetering in the least!!!

[-] crownofgold6@lemmy.ca 13 points 3 months ago

I felt the same. I rarely go on there but I did just to see what was happening with our sub and their attitude gave me good reason to not wanna post. They’re always making fun of her weight and her looks etc. so I don’t get why they think they’re any better than us?

[-] Stringcheese@lemmy.ca 16 points 3 months ago

Didn’t you know, they follow MUCH stricter guidelines including making everyone post to a single weekly thread /s 🤡

[-] MoonChild@lemmy.ca 6 points 3 months ago

I visit there quite often and some people are really funny but others can be vicious. There’s a real paranoia vibe

[-] Bella_maple@lemmy.ca 12 points 3 months ago

Yes thank you for this I'm so glad I'm not the only one that feels this way!!

[-] QueenofTudor@lemmy.ca 7 points 3 months ago

I agree! There was definitely a smugness and “told you so” attitude I didn’t appreciate. Their subreddit is dead anyway, likely due to their moderation and arbitrary rules

[-] Bitchwhiskers@lemmy.ca 6 points 3 months ago

The Alicia sun makes us look kind. They are mean and fatphobic af. I do not like AMc but the nastiness in that group is straight up mean girls

Hello new Lemmy friends!

Word on the street tells us our community is regularly making it the all page. While this is very cool news to hear, we can see how the sudden emergence of our posts in your feed might feel jarring and probably raises some questions. And also how, without knowing the backstory, our community might appear less than virtuous, so here’s a very brief introduction which hopefully will clear a few things up.

The woman we’re discussing is a body positive influencer and media personality who has gained fame and wealth by lying, manipulating, exploiting her children for content, plagiarizing BIPOC creators and blaming her BIPOC content editor for it (thereby ruining her career), among other things. Her fraudulent behavior is no different (I’d argue worse) from the likes of Jay Shetty (google him if you don’t know who he is or what he did). She’s the latest in a long line of grifting influencers who are abusing their power, taking advantage of their position and exploiting their followers. The difference is that she’s Canadian. Our laws around social media and advertising aren’t as clear (and where they are she’s disobeyed them), add to that, our mainstream media has protected her from those who’ve tried to expose her grift and silenced/intimidated anyone who’s tried to speak out.

Our Reddit sub was taken down due to reports of copyright infringement, which is unfounded and categorically untrue as no one ever tried to steal her work and pass it off as their own. The mods have made an appeal. While at first glance it may seem like we’re just “shitting on her” the sub has been more devoted to investigation and posting proof of her lies than just bitching for the sake of bitching. The reality is that she’s hurt, manipulated and let down a lot of people. She stole intellectual property and employment, caused mental distress and has repeatedly told lies to boost engagement and profit off her audience, so people are understandably upset that their voices are being silenced.

We’re grateful to have been welcomed so kindly by so many of you, and to those sticking around to watch the drama unfold, we’re glad to have you!
