Given that it's race week I thought it'd be a great time to start a discussion thread for the 24 Hours of Le Mans!

What are your predictions for each class? For LMH I'm hoping Ferrari can pull out a victory but Toyota have been pretty rock-solid this season so far.

Pretty amazing work by the mechanics to get the #311 Cadillac back out, but they sure have a lot of laps to make up to get back into the race (17ish laps behind the leader atm).

It'll be epic if they finish the race. He managed to do to lap without a wheel and without seeing nearly anything, and then the mechanics did a astounding job repairing all the damage. You can't not root for them in this race.

Gutted for Jota. Crashing out from P1 is hard to take. This Le Mans has been brutal so far.

Definitely a race for the books.

I love this point of the Le Mans, where you just see giant light halos for the most part.

Rain + nighttime = peak Le Mans conditions imho

[-] WhoRoger@lemmy.world 1 points 1 year ago

How did it fly by so fast

[-] itsmikeyd@lemmy.ml 3 points 1 year ago

Feel sorry for Aitken. Bet he's kicking himself.

Ferrari on pole.... Hmmm where have I heard that before?

Yep that pole aged like milk. But hey... 24 hours before us.

[-] Fluffysquash@lemmy.ml 1 points 1 year ago

Haha that was my first thought as well. Typical Ferrari pole that only lasts half way through the first lap

these battles are great so far

Yeah some amazing racing these first few hours, so refreshing to see after the lack of competition these past few years

[-] lackthought 2 points 1 year ago

so if this holds, Antonio Giovinazzi will have a more successful motorsports career than Charles Leclerc

What the hell is happens in this race

[-] abclop99@beehaw.org 1 points 1 year ago

Not anymore :(

[-] WhoRoger@lemmy.world 2 points 1 year ago

Fuck that was good. Shame I missed the craziest 2 hours last evening but this was probably the best race we'll ever get to see.

Really bites to see the number 8 out of the battle after that rear lockup. Just bring it home now, GIO. No pressure, only the worldwide tifosi depending on you.

[-] Cromutorium@beehaw.org 2 points 1 year ago

8 is still on the lead lap so could be right back in it if we see a safety car

[-] bobbo@midwest.social 1 points 1 year ago

Definitely, it ain't over til it's over.

After Ferrari’s performance during yesterday’s hyperpole session, I have renewed hope in them! Granted I’m ready to be hurt again by them 😅

[-] WhoRoger@lemmy.world 1 points 1 year ago

Now it's a direct battle Toyota vs Ferrari holy shit

Buemi is, quoiting Russell, driving like a madman. But it doesn't look it'll be enough to catch the Ferrari #51.

So I noticed that every time I tried to go to sleep, something happened with Toyota. The other Toyota crashed out just as I was falling asleep the first time.

I took another little nap and I think I heard the Toyota had spun out or went off road just as I was falling asleep. Think it was Hartley driving.

But it seems like when I wake up, something happens to Toyota. I woke up like 45min ago and then Hirakawa crashed. I'm pretty sure I heard something happened when I woke up the first time, too.

Sorry Toyota bros. My fault.

But maybe we'll get a final SC. 50min...it could still happen!

This was my first Le Mans experience and I'm absolutely loving it. Looking forward to the next races.
