What's your opinions for buying a used flip3 from places like amazon or CEX, judging from reviews the biggest worry is that the screen will breaking less than a year of second hand use.

I wouldn't, my wife had one from new and the screen protector got ugly quickly.

The moment that Samsung offered the 1 free replacement she sent it off and traded it at CEX as soon as it was returned.

I second this. I had the Original Fold and while it was nice to use and the perfect phone for me, my sweat was too aggressive for the fragile topmost plastic film. I ended up with rubbing marks left and right from doomscrolling at my old job.

Stupid question: why didn't you remove the plastic film?

It’s certainly not a stupid question!

You see, Samsung “pre-installed” a plastic screen protector for us. However, if you removed this screen protector, it would totally destroy the screen. It would just turn black and stop responding. So they built a plastic lip around the phone to “hide” the plastic film. Removal of said film still would destroy the phone.

Same experience here, also traded it away

Since flip touch screen phones still seem beta new, I wouldn't even consider used. I wouldn't even buy a new one lol

My flip3 screen had splintering along its hinge in about 8 months, and took Samsung another 3 months to get parts to fix it. 6 months after they fixed, it started showing signs of happening again and I traded it in.

For what is worth I wouldn't do it again.

Edit - also the battery is trash. I was lucky to make it to 8pm some days.

For reference, pics I sent to samsung regarding this

As an owner of a fold 4, I wouldn't trust the folding screen.

Over time gunk gets into the hinge, it's unavoidable.

If you're really set on a flip phone, might be worth checking out other & newer alternatives, Nubia flip, Razr flip...something you can buy new, at half the price of a Samsung..

The most stupidest gadget ever. Just because you CAN build it, doesn't mean you SHOULD.

Just adding to the chorus that while it's cool and conveniently sized the screen just falls apart.

It looks nice, but second hand device with technology that is only few generations old. I would only now consider buying it new.

I've got one and it's cool... but that's about it.

It's starting to chug now with modern apps (or legacy apps with new updates), the touchscreen is becoming increasingly unresponsive, that battery health is starting to go off a cliff... but all those factors can be levelled at any two or three year old phone.

The hinge is the problem. My understanding is that Samsung has made a better design for the SGF 5 and 6, but i'm already on my second phone after the hinge caused the phone screen to bleed out from the centre, and I'm getting the crackle of doom from the hinge starting to sound already.

If you're desperate for a flip phone, then I'd advise you stay clear of the SGF3 and consider the Oppo Find N2 or the Nubia Flip.

I loved mine until I couldn't close it without it crashing. The small format is very appealing to me. But yeah, noe it's just a normal phone as I can't close it

Do you REALLY wanna buy a wore out bent plastic phone?
