Are your reverse proxy/ websockets working correctly? When I first started the UI without adding the routes for the backend, the login button would just time out exactly like that.

See if there are any network errors in your browser's developer tools, and see if there are any logs in your backend container.

They should of been.. i'm running caddy so it's pretty turn key but i'll give it another go.

Are you running an nginx container as well? The nginx config is pretty complicated and crucial, so I would recommend pointing caddy to the nginx container and let it handle all the different routing.

nginx config here: https://join-lemmy.org/docs/en/administration/install_docker.html

You can see the server side logs for errors:

sudo docker logs lemmy_lemmy_1

The errors there might shed more light into what is going on.

I’m assuming you put the admin user and password into the lemmy.hjson file and are trying to log in with those?

thats was the key.. thank you!

No problem! Glad I could help. I spent most of yesterday working through similar issues you are currently working on, so use what I learned!

huh.. the guide i followed didn't mention a lemmy.hjson file.. let me start again!

The documentation is not currently in the greatest state, from what I saw. There is literally nothing other than the default config for how to setup email / SMTP.

this was also on my list of questions... i've seen nothing and i need to point things to smtp2go.. but at the moment i think i'm going to hold off.. i don't have the time or resources to be an early adopter..

I didn't mean to discourage you! It's really not that bad, if you like system-administration. I enjoy it, but it can get pretty frustrating.

my experiment was largely a knee jerk reaction to things going on over at reddit..i think there are plenty more people more capable than i am of assisting in growing this environment.. once i can contribute by simply offering up compute i'll be back.. for now I'll have to enjoy from afar.
