As part of a new coup attempt in Venezuela, the US has recognized opposition leader Edmundo González as supposed president, after Trump tried to impose puppet Juan Guaidó in 2019. The State Department cited only US government-funded sources to accuse President Maduro of "electoral fraud".

Jesus... can the US just not?

My only acquaintance in Venezuela has come out in support for the opposition. It's a shame to see, but I haven't been close to him for many years now, anyways. I just feel ashamed that so many of my online friends have turned out to harbor these types of pro-imperialist beliefs, just because I didn't think to check their beliefs more thoroughly, or even if I had thought to check thoroughly, that I wouldn't have been able to identify many reactionary beliefs until more recently. I guess it's true what people say about 99% of people who speak English or whatever...

Edit: Honestly, I'm not sure what to think now. I may have been too quick to assume the nature of the situation just from the headlines in my news feed, and should not have spoken without properly educating myself.
