Fact that they were women makes me guess Zapatistas?

Women's rights came to mexico quickly but only after the revolutionaries won and were pushed even further left by the alternative factions that had helped them win IIRC.

I would presume as much, though I only have surface-level knowledge of the Mexican Revolution.

Same, Kraut's US Mexico Border series is a pretty good history of both states but that still only provides so much resolution when the time span is the entire age of colonialism through just after 2000
