Trip hammers are neat as hell. Usually you see them in conjunction with watermills though.

I didn't realized that the windmills' tops could ever rotate, or that they had automatic hammers, it could be connected to irrigation pumps, or that individual drive trails would go to houses.

Obviously not every wind mill was this sophisticated, but it's very cool.
