I need to try this! Esperanto was my gateway to really enjoying language learning, though I fell out of it after a while. People greatly underestimate it's value.
Never heard of this before. Is it widely used around the world? I know in Europe many people speak English, but do they also know this Esperanto?
It was supposed to be the "universal language". According to Wikipedia, up to 100,000 people speak it globally.
If I remember correctly, it was adopted by the League of Nations, a precursor to NATO, in the early 1900's.
Here's the article if you're interested. I didn't really read through it to fact check myself cause I'm poopin' on break, but there you go.
I'd also like to add Esperanto is the only artificial language with native speakers. Meaning, there are people who speak it as a first language. It has actually been estimated to have as many as 2 million speakers, depending on your source.
