Hey y'all. I'm in a precarious situation right now. Yes, I am falling in love with someone and I want to approach this in a faithful way. My previous relationships included me putting the other person above everything basically, but I want to put God in the first place this time. It's probably healthier this way. Any Christian books about phenomenology of love or falling in love that you know of?

Aw, man. Again with the downvotes. I really don't understand why Lemmy is so hostile. I'm just looking to be happier and more able to love someone the way the are meant to be loved. :(

Bigotry against Catholics is somehow socially acceptable.

Maybe putting the boogey man ahead of your relationship?

This feels a bit rude, what are you trying to say?

[–] CrayonRosary@lemmy.world 5 points 8 months ago* (last edited 8 months ago) (1 children)

I think they're trying to say that god isn't real and is just a boogey man to scare people into behaving in certain ways.

So, God not being real is the reason he's being a dick to religious people for no reason? I'll stick to God then so I don't do the same

[–] CrayonRosary@lemmy.world 5 points 8 months ago (1 children)

I think it's more nuanced than that. Religionists are pushing their beliefs on other people on many fronts. (Not you, per se.) It's been happening for thousands of years, and non-believers are tired of it.

Stumbling into a true believer in an otherwise very secular online forum (Lemmy) is a painful reminder that true believers exist and support the machine.

@CrayonRosary @LucidBoi I mean clearly if the non-believers were tired of people pushing their beliefs on other people, they wouldn't be brigading a Catholic community.

Brigading. Funny. It was a post I found while browsing "Everything", and I simply answered their questions.

Where am I being a dick to religious people? I was posing a possible answer to your question. I did not even downvote your post.

Then in good faith I believe that no, it's not because of the boogeyman.

God is not just an Aetherial entity. He is not there to scare you into doing the right thing. God envelops the virtues that we should each place upon our hearts. Truth, love, seeking the right way: All these things should come before the whims of anyone in our life and lead us to know what is actually best for each other. If you have confused the true faithful with those who have a Kindergarten understanding of Christianity, maybe crack open a Catechism and ask yourself if anyone of small mind would approach this kind of religious introspection. Now compare that to what you are doing. Who is really putting in more work into the world to better themselves? Someone seeking a righteous path or someone beguiling a man who is taking his relationship seriously with a cheeky anonymous posting on an Internet forum designed for an entirely differnt kind of communal interaction than mere trolling?

Are you assuming that OP's focus is on avoiding punishment?

[–] nokturne213@sopuli.xyz 2 points 7 months ago

The only thing I am assuming is why op was being downvoted.
