I made several statements that the mods had acted in violation of the Code of Conduct and quoted several lines from the Code of Conduct.

I have discovered that I was quoting an older version of the CoC and so my statements were incorrect. I would like to issue this correction and apologize. The quoted lines are not from the current version of the Code of Conduct and should be disregarded.

i remember that trans comrade mentioned a plan to make amendments and updates to the hexbear code of conduct and site rules to make things clearer for everyone. i thought that was a good idea, is that still happening? obviously no rush i was just wondering is all.

i think that a lot of the suprise here (moreso speaking around the temp bans for the upvotes) may be mitigated by being reflected in the site rules and establishing how upvotes are viewed by mods and admins in the overall site culture. making it clearer how upvotes are expected to be used may be helpful especially for autistic and nd comrades to reference so then they can know the context a bit better as well.

Edit: I read all that and thank you. I think adding more dedicated mods from our trusted userbase will only increase the type of inclusivity we want and further the goals of hexbear.

I almost never upvote anything intentionally, so I've used Ublock Origin to filter all of the upvote buttons.

If you have any suggestions, please share them. I couldn't figure out how to make the score counter unclickable without deleting it.

I just hope the current leadership (who have done a great job over the last few years) put a lot of effort into vetting new mods and admins to retain the proper class-character of the website which safeguards it from reactionary wrecking.

If they find auditing upvotes to be a useful tool towards that end, so be it. At the end of the day mods and admins will have certain powers. Making those powers transparent is an acceptable compromise which I hope can build more trust between the users and mods.

It would be better to let inactive comms close/lock rather than insert mods that aren't properly vetted out of desperation.

so, I have an extreme anxiety disorder and would like to know something in particular. can mods see a time stamp of an upvote? because, it is possible to upvote a comment which is later edited to take a position that could be read as reactionary; it is also possible a seeming well meaning question can be hashed out in replies that make it clear such an innocuous post is in fact a brainworm of the poster and I am seemingly agreeing with the thread when I simply upvoted the earlier parts in a thread before later comments came.

honestly all of this seems so labour intensive and subjective in the sheer lack of context seemingly provided by a name in a list next to a comment, that I have to wonder the rationale at all in using upvotes as a form of moderation. just because it can be done doesn't mean you have to do it. the most consistent form of moderation will always be looking at what people actually post, and it is easy to just call it there. keep it shrimple 🦐
