Or cool groups to connect with or anything really. Going to be there briefly. I see the transit sucks (all buses) but if there are any cool leftist or other things (makerspaces, cool bookstores, anything really) I'd love some ideas for my free time.

kkkanada of course

Good thing to do if you are in Winnipeg? Leave. (I'm joking but also not. In other circumstances I would say that "I haven't spent much time there" but the time I spent there was too much.)

There’s a reason Venetian Snares made an entire EP about how much of a frozen shithole Winnipeg is.

the frozen part I kinda like, I'm a cold weather sicko, but yeah, seems to have few other redeeming features

The Weakerthans also have many songs about how Winnipeg sucks. Including this fantastic ditty: https://youtu.be/xLlsjEP7L-k

I’ve lived in winnipeg for almost 2 decades now and it really is as bad as everyone says. Sometimes its nice enough in the summer to trick you into thinking its an okay place but at the end of the day its a frozen shithole like 14 hour drive from nearest proper city (minneapolis doesnt count sorry). And thats just location/climate could go on and on about other stuff that sucks.

We have good weed and beer to smooth things over a bit at least.

I don't live in Canada, but the only positive thing I know about Winnipeg is that the 8-Bit Music Theory guy is from there. He played a show at a bowling alley called Park Alleys for his album release and it seems like they have jazz jam sessions every Tuesday night with no cover charge, so if jazz is your thing that could be cool

Stay inside it’s cold and as fuck and everything’s covered in ice. There’s basically nothing to do here in the winter other than drink. At least in the summer we can drink and also grill.

The art gallery is pretty nice tho they have some cool indigenous stuff

Also gonna add since I saw you like the cold for some reason The Forks downtown has nice skating trails once they are open, which I’m not sure when is because I don’t go outside in the winter other than walking to the pub but surely soon

If you like art, the Winnipeg Art Gallery is pretty cool, their permanent collection has over 21000 pieces. In 2021 they opened Qaumajuq (the Inuit art centre), which is the largest collection of Inuit art in the world.

If some reason you were a coin nerd, the Royal Mint in Winnipeg produces all of the coins in circulation as well as coins for 80 countries worldwide. The one in Ottawa now mostly focuses on collector coins.
