Don't use Brave. It's three crypto scams in a trench coat.
Mobile Firefox is fine. Losing Mull doesn't change that.

Is there something better I could use? Vanadium's content blocking is bad, so maybe Fennec? On desktop, I use Librewolf for some things, Mullvad for others, and Brave for Cinny web-apps.
I usually just disable the crypto and forget that it's there, to be honest.
Fennec, I guess. Maybe apply arkenfox or betterfox to it. I use Iceraven, but it's not guaranteed to get the fastest security updates.
Does Fennec have access to about:config? Huge if true.
Edit: Iceraven is pretty nice, ditched Brave :). Still using Vanadium for web apps (like I already did), but I hope Iceraven continues to receive updates.
Yeah, Vanadium is a good choice for places you don't have to worry about content blocking.
Yes, fennec has about:config
On firefox mobile you can install desktop extensions, including ublock origin for ad blocking. Brave is cringe.
I guess I'll switch back to Fennec for now. I'm definitely never going to use Brave.
I've never understood the Brave popularity.
I've been using Mull for some time now. Pretty good too. It's basically a privacy hardened Fennec
Yeah me too but the point of the post is that Mull will no longer be developed, hence why I'll have to switch back to Fennec
Oh shit I didn't know. Fuck.
It's now the best chromium web browser on Android unless you're on Graphene, and one of the best on desktop when properly configured
I think it's because it provides a good level of content blocking and tracking protection while being very easy to use and get into.
That sucks, I liked Mull.
I'd rather use stock firefox than Brave. Why would anyone use brave? How many times have they been caught doing sketchy things like crypto mining or inserting trackers?
A good way to get browsers on android is through FFUpdater (repo, F-Droid) it includes various forks etc. Not all are directly available via F-Droid.
As a tangent, there's also Obtainium [F-Droid] which can be used to download app updates, I use it to download Firefox beta straight from Mozilla
Curated list of apps that can be configured to be installed/updated with Obtainium
I use obtainium for a couple of things; I'm glad it's there. I don't really understand the link though? All the stuff about configurations etc. I can see that there are lots of non-FLOSS packages mixed up in there.
One reason I like the ffupdater is that they are a bit more aggressive in their curation. Things gets removed if they are not good so I don't need to keep up on all the browser gossip. e.g. #35 #555
Thanks for sharing this. I use mull so this is relevant to me. Is there something like arkenfox for Firefox Android?
It's a pain in the ass, but you could install arkenfox or betterfox via ADB: https://github.com/yokoffing/Betterfox/issues/240
May require Firefox nightly, or Fennec, or Iceraven.
Damn. DOS was one of my favorite projects and also my favorite ROM. Sad to see it go, but I understand why since it was a one-person team. Hopefully someone else will be able to fill the hole left by this, especially for maintaining the security of older devices to whatever extent is possible with mostly automated means.
Just looked at the linked blog entry. Is there a particular reason?
Also damn... this actually makes me kind of sad to see such good software go unmaintained. Ofc the volunteering maintainers don't owe it to anyone to upkeep their projects indefinitely
Saw on a forum that the Dev wanted to move on, since they've been working on the project for 10 years.
:(

The struggle for libre computing cannot be disentangled from other forms of socialist reform. One must be willing to reject proprietary software as fiercely as they would reject capitalism. Luckily, we are not alone.
