Hey guys,

Can one of you please try to subscribe to a community from a different instance? Say, for example, !books@lemmy.ml. I see the text "subscribe", but it is not a button and it does nothing.

Same here. I see the text, but it's not a button. When I search for "books", I only get posts listed and no communities.

Update: In the community search I also get an error that says "couldnt_find_object"
Update 2: But the problem doesn't seem to exist for this community: !gaming@beehaw.org So, could it be lemmy.ml specific?
Update 3: It's weirder than that: When I follow "Communities" at the top, select "All" and click on the link of a community I haven't subscribed, then I see the button. But when I follow the link from within this post, the button disappears. The URLs in both cases are the same. Is there may be some referral logic that doesn't work well with links?
Update 4: Here is a reproduction:

Update 5: The problem doesn't seem to be limited to "outside" communities. I could reproduce the problem with a local community.

I think you should open an issue. Not sure if this is lemmy or lemmy-UI, but definitely should be an issue.

I can subscribe just fine. The first button click resulted in loading icon before again displaying the "Subscribe" text. I refreshed the page and it then displayed my account as "Joined".

If I click the subscribe button twice it subscribes successfully too. 🤷‍♂️

Tested on mobile via browser.

Did anyone find any other workaround than refreshing until it randomly appears as a button ?

It somehow shows as a button when I switch between "Comments" and "Posts". I'm not sure if that works everytime.

I keep trying to subscribe to things at lemmy.world and am having the same issue.

I'd assume it's just because everything is under quite a lot of load at the moment, and eventually things will sort themselves out
