that probably would make things more confusing since it would sound even closer to c/technology. You also cant rename communities so it would have to be remade if any name change occured which would lose all the current posts, etc.

[–] Ategon@programming.dev 2 points 1 month ago

Pangora should be back up atm if you wanted a reference to what it looks like. It's something I just havent been maintaining and updating atm since ive been focusing on getting some other projects finished and lemmy has been good enough so far on this side

Hey everyone. Just wanted to do a post to pin in the community just to enforce the difference between c/tech and c/technology more since there's been more and more rule breaking posts popping up and I don't want to put more work on maintaining here since there's no dedicated mod team for it atm

This is a community oriented towards underlying tech so for new things happening in the tech world as opposed to misc legislation and company news

Examples of posts that fit here

  • Wi-Fi 8 will bring reliability rather than greater speed
  • App that translates speech to sign language in real-time wins top innovation prize
  • FDA approves breakthrough eye drops that fix near vision without glasses
  • We hacked into a bowling alley computer | The Serial Port
  • Scientists Make First Mechanical Qubit
  • New version of the PNG image standard released

Examples of posts that do not (and should go into c/technology instead)

  • Atlassian moved 4 million Postgres databases to AWS Aurora
  • Verizon Announces CEO Transition
  • Tailwind Labs Cuts 75% Engineers: AI Kills CSS Tools
  • Architecting Consent for AI: Deceptive Patterns in Firefox Link Preview

Since it wasn't being enforced as much some older rule breaking posts are still up but things should be getting enforced more from now on (if something sneaks through and gets large with no presence in the other communities I can leave it up but ideally it would go into c/technology instead)

If someone wants to mod this community feel free to let me know since it doesn't have a mod team atm

I'm in the same city so it's not that bad. Could be a lot worse lol

Also going to be adding some ssh keys to my steam deck and phone so if this happens again I can at least connect remotely that way next time. Usually do it with password auth on my personal servers so forgot to copy the key for this server

Hey everyone! Sorry for the few hours of outage on the site. There was an issue with the renewing of the SSL certificates and in standard fashion it happened at the worst time when nobody could fix it quickly.

Drove back to my PC and renewed it so the site should be fine now. Hope everyone has a good rest of the holidays!

All alternate frontends have been updated to their recent versions.

  • Alexandrite (a.programming.dev) has been updated to version 0.8.20
  • Photon (p.programming.dev) has been updated to version 2.2.2
  • Tesseract (t.programming.dev) has been updated to version 1.4.41
  • Voyager (v.programming.dev) has been updated to version 2.42.0

Hope you enjoy the new changes on them! Theres too many changes to list them all here but if you’re interested you can look at the releases page for each one.

Canvas ends in 22 hours! (programming.dev)
submitted 7 months ago* (last edited 7 months ago) by Ategon@programming.dev to c/events@programming.dev

Its the last day of the !canvas@toast.ooo event with it ending 22 hours from when this post is made.

This is an event similar to to r/place where everyone can place a pixel on a canvas every so often. Everyone has access to the same canvas meaning you can work together to construct art and wars can happen for territory leading to needing to defend things that get constructed

Theres still some work that needs to be done for the programming.dev design so any help getting that up is appreciated. There's also still blank space around the canvas if anyone wants to add in their own designs.

Event link: https://canvas.fediverse.events/

The programming.dev design template: https://canvas.fediverse.events/#x=380&y=297&zoom=1&tu=https%3A%2F%2Fbytes.programming.dev%2Ffiles%2Ff2c5ff7d-e015-40be-851d-81ecf3c9e77c&tw=66&tx=403&ty=393&ts=DOTTED_SMALL (were near the bottom right)

Theres a timelapse of the event up to the current point at https://sc07.tv/w/sV6dtF1u1e3wMDB24k2fqZ

Happy pixel placing!

Canvas is happening in almost a day! This is an event similar to to r/place where everyone can place a pixel on a canvas every so often. Everyone has access to the same canvas meaning you can work together to construct art and wars can happen for territory leading to needing to defend things that get constructed

The event link is here: https://canvas.fediverse.events/

This is the third time the event is taking place. Theres an image in the post of what the p.d area looked like the second time it happened (were using a similar ish template this year with some differences so its different than last year)

The main locations for dicussing the event for programming.dev is this community, our discord and our matrix if you want to chat with other people participating

Theres a design that will be getting made for programming.dev in general but if any communities want to organize something feel free to plan out something nearby or elsewhere on the canvas. Any help getting the programming.dev design built will also be really appreciated since then we will be able to expand out the design and get more communities represented in the community icons

You can use this template to know where to place pixels for the programming.dev design when the event is happening

One to one: https://canvas.fediverse.events/#x=380&y=297&zoom=1&tu=https%3A%2F%2Fbytes.programming.dev%2Ffiles%2Ff2c5ff7d-e015-40be-851d-81ecf3c9e77c&tw=66&tx=403&ty=393&ts=ONE_TO_ONE

Combined all the templates I could find into one giant template for ease of seeing where theres free space

Feel free to reply with other templates for me to add them on or with updates to templates

Theres currently 3 space conflicts (with smaller art going on the same spot as larger art)

  • edit: added toast.ooo
  • edit 2: updated programming.dev template
  • edit 3: added feddit, bt free, fireside fedi, synthwave
  • edit 4: updated synthwave position
  • edit 5: added 3 new designs. Im not doing any more edits to this as its close to the event now

Remember to Report Issues (programming.dev)
submitted 8 months ago* (last edited 8 months ago) by Ategon@programming.dev to c/meta@programming.dev

If you ever run into issues with the instance make sure to report them to someone on the admin team so we can fix them (Ive seen some people mention some stuff I didnt know about before since it wasnt brought up). Duplicate reports about the same issue is better than no report at all so dont worry about reporting something someone else already might

Most of the team can be reached quickly through the discord and matrix channels (more of the team is on discord but theyre federated to each other)

As well since I already got this question due to the lemm.ee shutdown just wanted to also mention here we did onboard someone new to the admin team since when we asked in the post and the instance is doing fine

I fixed a slowness issue so you might see the instance get quicker but if it still bad let me know. Ive been clearing out some tasks in my backlog for other projects im doing and am planning to start doing development work on some things relevant to the instance again sometime in the summer. For things related to the community side of the instance prioritize reaching out to someone on the community team (list is on the legal site) as always since they are the team that deals with those aspects)

Hi everyone! Were currently looking to get two new members of the community team: one for programming.dev (our forum and link aggregator) and one for bytes.programming.dev (our microblog)

Tasks would include making sure the community side of the instance runs smoothly so that people can enjoy the content on it

For programming.dev that would include helping with handling reports that come in, handling applications and making sure content hosted on the instance follows the CoC. For bytes it would be the same bar applications as bytes does not have an application process. You can see the full administration guidelines on our legal site here: https://legal.programming.dev/docs/administration-guidelines/. The primary communication platform for the admins is discord but all channels are also bridged to matrix

Anyone interested feel free to reach out to one of the team members listed in the administration guidelines (apart from snowe) or comment on the mirror of this post created on the programming.dev side (you can reach out on discord, matrix, programming.dev, or bytes)

The process for getting added onto the team would include an interview and permissions being added slowly to make sure new additions understand the guidelines and how they should be handling reports

Been working on getting a game jam set up with a bunch of other organizers for the past bit. At some point in the future I should be adding in activitypub support (for the microblog side of the fediverse) so that posts mentioning the jam show up in the jam main page (that wont be for this iteration of the jam though since I primarily focused on getting the base jam functionality up)

D2Jam is a community centered game jam with a emphasis on supporting things constructed by the community! We wanted a jam which celebrated post-submission events, encouraged discourse and reflection, and provided tools for developers to find and share games.

D2Jam is an online game jam that anyone is free to join and that lasts for 3 days (Somewhere between Friday and Monday depending on timezones). There is a 2 hour submission window at the end as a time to make sure you get your game submitted before the jam fully ends. After the jam there is a 2 week rating period to play, rate, and give feedback to other entries in the jam. In addition any post jam events such as the Score Chasers tournament will be run in the post jam period.

We have 2 categories: Regular and O.D.A (One Dev Army). Both happen at the same time.
