oh god yes skirts are life. Have you had the painted toes with your skirt yet it's giddy.

Not yet! I’m giving my nails a break from polish for a few days to breathe (apparently that’s good for keeping them healthy?). Soon, though!

[–] Szyler@lemmy.world 5 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Not to breathe, but to not become brittle and discoloured.

[–] compostgoblin@slrpnk.net 4 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Ah, gotcha! What about being covered in polish makes them more brittle and discolored?

[–] Szyler@lemmy.world 5 points 2 weeks ago (2 children)

Acetone (thing that makes it luqid but hardens the nail polish once it evaporates) breaks it down, and no water is able to give the nail and the surrounding skin moisture from above.

I learned something today, thank you!

I had a skirt and eggly convinced myself it was a manly man skirt and i was just defying gender norms. My therapist told me to explore the gender stuff and i tried polish with the skirt and it was just like explosions of gender euphoria in my head every time i looked down and felt the soft swishy and saw the pretty sparkly.

Now skirts with toe paint are like anti depressants for me it's impossible to look down and see the swish and paint and not feel delighted.

What's a good way to find out ones skirt size? There's a skirt on Amazon I like, but I've never worn any feminine clothing before and don't know what size I'd wear

[–] compostgoblin@slrpnk.net 2 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Is there a size guide where you can see what measurements correspond to which sizes? That’s how I judged the size to pick mine - I went by the closest waist size/measurement, and it fits pretty well. There may be better methods out there though that I’m just not aware of yet

[–] Ivy@retrolemmy.com 1 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Checked the page again and there is a measurement guide, but I kinda don't know my own waist measurement or how to take my own measurements 😅

Do you own a sewing tape measure/ruler?

If you don’t, they’re pretty cheap (and worth it, IMO), but you can achieve the same thing with some string and a normal tape measure.

Your waist measurement will be roughly the narrowest part of your torso (kind of near your belly button), and your hip measurement will be the widest part of your torso (roughly at the top of your hip bones). Here’s an article that might be helpful!
