like daddit for the fediverse but we all eat pizza with ranch and say "ope" a lot. all dads and non-dads are welcome. ranch on pizza is recommended but not required. ope is mandatory.

My oldest did not want to potty train. We tried the pants free weekend when he was 2 and he flat out refused. We tried again right before his 3rd birthday and it was a breeze.
My youngest practically potty trained himself at 2.
Just a word of warning, sometimes pushing potty training sets you back. Some kids react to pressure by forming a mental block. Each of my kids potty trained at different rates, but they all got there.
I hear that, and I've tried to be patient. But she's at the age where it's becoming a social issue. I've watched other kids her age make fun of her diapers. She's my daughter so she's weird enough on her own.
In my experience it really is an entirely kid lead thing. Your job as a parent is to make them comfortable, knowledgeable about the potty, and facilitate the process. You have to expect possible regressions too. One of mine was constipated once during potty training and as a result refused to poop on the potty for MONTHS after they were pee trained (because they associated the constipation with being on the potty).
Parenting can feel awkward and embarrassing, but just remember, all parents feel that way.
Bold move Cotton. We've started potty training our 2.5 year old and my wife thought he wasn't ready yet, but he's taken to it like a duck to water. I think you're right to force the issue.
I read a couple potty training books before we started and the one that worked for us is from Oh Crap!. Breaking the process down into smaller blocks of learning really helps build a foundation for success.
So uh... How did this turn out?
