My son (4yo) went ice fishing with his kindergarten group. Nobody didn't catch anything but I was told everyone had fun. I feel like s*it because I can't do these things with him. But when he's happy so am I

Nobody didn't catch anything.. so they all caught something? /s

Fun activity for a kindergarten! I love to see these types of things for kindergarten/early elementary school level, something beyond what you can do on premises. I have my earliest excursion memories from kindergarten, walking in the forest Identifying plants. Fun way to learn.

Edit: btw, my dad didn't know how to fish either, but he taught oh so many other things, more valuable things in my opinion. Don't feel bad for not knowing how to. Teach him what you know, the rest he'll pick up from friends and whatnot.

I do know how to, but my health is so bad I can't do these type of activities with him. That is what makes me sad

Don't waste time to be sad about things you can't change anymore. Use the time to think about things you can still do with him.

Hi dad, it's me, your son, but from the future. I'm 75 now and writing to you via a time machine I found behind a McDonald's Bell.

It is crucially important you need these words: do not order the fish sticks. Under no circumstances, NONE, order the fish sticks.

Near me, I see folks out on ice like this. I always wonder about the safety (especially when they have machines out there) but it looks like fun! I hope you can get out there sometime soon.

I've lived where you can skate on lakes and canals in the winter. If the ice is thick enough there's no real concern. Here's some info if you'd like to read more about how the ice is prepped and safety maintained on the Rideau Canal in Ottawa: https://ncc-ccn.gc.ca/blog/rideau-canal-skateway-creating-worlds-largest-skating-rink

That was pretty helpful! I have heard that the ice on some of the flat land lakes can be a few feet thick, and up higher can be 10+. I guess that is enough!

I also appreciated the polar bear weight unit 😄

Looks awesome. I always thought ice fishing required a shack.

Why to post pictures at all, if we obscure faces in them.

[–] artomelaranta@lemmings.world 3 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

I won't post Identifiable pics of my kid's if they are under 18 or if I have their permission

Not so long someone posted photos "Had a great dinner with my friends". Everyone was holding glasses up and had black square over their head. I don't get any of you people.

[–] artomelaranta@lemmings.world 1 points 2 weeks ago

I don't get the above either but four years old can't decide to post a pic or not. That's why his face is blurred. But as I said, I also don't understand situation like you described

[–] spankmonkey@lemmy.world 3 points 2 weeks ago

Agreed, but a positive side effect is poisoning AI scrapers...
