They are also horrible for the environment because they are made of plastic and designed to be disposed of after theyโre empty.

I've always viewed that style of lighter as one that you might use in an emergency, but that's about it. Anyone using a lighter on a regular basis would benefit from getting one that can be refilled. But for an emergency, a refillable lighter might be too expensive or problematic.
My 2 cents, anyway. I don't use lighters like those.
I bought one of their long style bbq lighters and was so angry when it didn't have a refill port. The thing cost over 10 โฌ, how does it not have a refill port?
True, usually BIC Products have this french pseudo ecological certificate printed on them (NF100) Like on the Bic Cristal which is supposedly refillable, but they don't sell any refills anywhere.
(Still one of the best ballpoint pens around)
At least you can use them to rewound cassette tape :)
They don't have a refill port at the bottom? A lot of lighters I've seen have it.
I don't know about these specifically but in general BIC lighters are made to be used until gas runs out, not very friendly to the environment indeed. But to be honest, there are many much worse things if you consider you can use these for a while before you throw them out.
I modified a Bic lighter to be refillable with a thumbtack. It's not the safest thing to do and I'd definitely fill it outside if you don't want to accidentally huff enough lighter fluid to get high, but you can make them refillable.
On a side note: if you smoke bongs, those lighters in the thumbnail are the fucking bomb.
I believe those are called Clippers
They're designed to crap out way before they should and the ones in the US definitely do not have that label so confirm their location before jumping on this bandwagon.

BIC has drawn criticism for maintaining its business operations in Russia after the Russian invasion of Ukraine in February 2022. Yale University's Chief Executive Leadership Institute has published lists identifying companies, including BIC, that have continued operations in Russia despite the ongoing conflict.
clippers are refillable though
