Explanation: The Romanian ruler Vlad the Impaler and his brother were both hostages at the Ottoman court in their youth. Vlad was released (perhaps unwisely, in retrospect) and became an inveterate enemy of the Ottomans, while his brother, Radu the Handsome, remained with the Ottomans, and was loyal to the Ottoman Empire. Radu the Handsome is said to have had an intimate relationship with the Ottoman sultan, Mehmed II.
