This meme, but with hungarians in Europe. I aged a couple of years reading wiki on their language. I won't say it's bad or anything, it's just fucking impressive.

never ask a man his salary never ask a hungarian where did their language come from

A mentally ill dragon outcast settled in Hungary and taught the locals a language as a joke.

If KCD2 really is the most historically accurate video game ever, then does that mean I can learn Hungarian by just getting super drunk with them?

[–] Comment105@lemm.ee 2 points 1 month ago

Yes, certainly.

These languages perceived as ones very difficult to learn.

But what does “NSFL” stand for ?

Not Safe For Life. An overdramatization on my end.

I was responsible for localization for work and Polish…

Google “Polish counting”. It’s almost like the Polish people intentionally made it hard to learn their language.

I’d do the same thing if my country was invaded every few decades.

Some part of it is because we used to have a dual form in our language (as in between single and plural). The rest is pure sadism as far as I can tell from my years in Polish educational system.

For those who did a search only to get back pages of less-than-useless SEO slop that just recites the number line, here is something that better describes some of the grammatical insanity.

also, czterydzieści cztery is imo one of the less pronounceable words (well, two of them) in Polish.

I keep forgetting how awful the internet is without ad blockers…

Great link & description, though. Super solid.

[–] daggermoon@lemmy.world 6 points 2 months ago

It's my favorite slavic language. I wish it wasn't so goddamn complicated so I can learn it.
