Speaking in the latest issue of Doctor Who Magazine, Davies said that the show is "wilder than it's ever been before" in a climactic storyline that is both "very epic" and also "very personal".

Teasing what's to come, he continued: "It takes some very unexpected turns... There are big surprises, from the Doctor and for the Doctor. Some of it shakes up the lore of Gallifrey. Some of it re-contextualises the Doctor, the Rani, and their relationship."

Amid speculation about Doctor Who's future beyond season 15, Davies describes the upcoming finale as a "full circle" moment for the latest era of the show, with the promise that he's been "weaving in" elements from across Ncuti Gatwa's tenure.

"Elements from [season 14 premiere] The Church on Ruby Road are even paid off. It's rewarding for long-term fans but exciting for new viewers as well," he added.

To be fair, a lot of this is RTD's usual promotional bluster, but he knows his Who lore and how much the fans do too. I don't think he's talking lightly about "shake-ups" to what we know or think about Gallifrey.

Now, whether viewers are going to approve of or even care about those changes — that's an entirely different matter.

This probably isn't a very original idea, but...could the Rani be Tecteun?

Sure, I guess. It wouldn't look great that Gallifrey can't have two separate, female science geniuses, but on the other hand that tracks with how human sciences have treated woman professionals.

Any chance to also roll Romana into the same package?

Sure, load 'em up.

I was really just thinking about the mad scientist angle, and how that bit actually works pretty well.

Maybe not THE rani, but a rani

The indefinite article, you might say.

I am steadfast in not listening to a word the man has to say about any future episodes so I'm not reading that. That way lie disappointment and slitheen.

Rule 1: The Doctor (Who showrunner) lies.

Probably good advice! I try to skim past the adjectives to find some kernel of interest, but I'm sure your way is more effective.
