Community rules (click to expand)

1. Follow the site-wide rules

2. Be civil
  • Understand the difference between a joke and an insult.
  • Do not harrass or attack users for any reason. This includes using blanket terms, like "every user of thing".
  • Don't get baited into back-and-forth insults. We are not animals.
  • Leave remarks of "peasantry" to the PCMR community. If you dislike an OS/service/application, attack the thing you dislike, not the individuals who use it. Some people may not have a choice.
  • Bigotry will not be tolerated.
  • 3. Post Linux-related content
  • Including Unix and BSD.
  • Non-Linux content is acceptable as long as it makes a reference to Linux. For example, the poorly made mockery of sudo in Windows.
  • No porn, no politics, no trolling or ragebaiting.
  • 4. No recent reposts
  • Everybody uses Arch btw, can't quit Vim, <loves/tolerates/hates> systemd, and wants to interject for a moment. You can stop now.
  • 5. πŸ‡¬πŸ‡§ Language/язык/Sprache
  • This is primarily an English-speaking community. πŸ‡¬πŸ‡§πŸ‡¦πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡ΊπŸ‡Έ
  • Comments written in other languages are allowed.
  • The substance of a post should be comprehensible for people who only speak English.
  • Titles and post bodies written in other languages will be allowed, but only as long as the above rule is observed.
  • 6. (NEW!) Regarding public figuresWe all have our opinions, and certain public figures can be divisive. Keep in mind that this is a community for memes and light-hearted fun, not for airing grievances or leveling accusations.
  • Keep discussions polite and free of disparagement.
  • We are never in possession of all of the facts. Defamatory comments will not be tolerated.
  • Discussions that get too heated will be locked and offending comments removed.

Please report posts and comments that break these rules!

Important: never execute code or follow advice that you don't understand or can't verify, especially here. The word of the day is credibility. This is a meme community -- even the most helpful comments might just be shitposts that can damage your system. Be aware, be smart, don't remove France.

Context is for kings, not for LLMs.

    [–] Mwa@thelemmy.club 14 points 13 hours ago (1 children)

I just turn off Ddg assist

    [–] narwhal@mander.xyz 1 points 25 minutes ago* (last edited 24 minutes ago)

It keeps coming back no matter how many times I turn it off.

    [–] DonutsRMeh@lemmy.world 19 points 20 hours ago (1 children)

It ain't lying. You asked for bazzite not bazzite OS. Two different things.

    [–] VerilyFemme@lemmy.blahaj.zone 26 points 20 hours ago* (last edited 20 hours ago) (1 children)

Large Language Model, but not large enough to infer context. What's funnier is it understands what Bazzite is if you search Bazzite vs Nobara, but comparing it to the one with OS in the name doesn't tip the LLM off...

    [–] DonutsRMeh@lemmy.world 9 points 20 hours ago (1 children)

You're expecting too much of it. πŸ˜‚

    [–] VerilyFemme@lemmy.blahaj.zone 9 points 19 hours ago

The most unrealistic expectation of all: as advertised πŸ˜‚

Earlier today someone in my mastodon feed wrote about DuckDuckGo but without AI, had to go back there since i couldn't remember the url, but it's really simple actually: https://noai.duckduckgo.com/

    (Special thanks to https://mograph.social/@ephemeral/114762822279018422)

Debian is an operating system based entirely on free software, while a fedora is a type of stylish hat.

Mint is an operating system based on Debian, while Ubuntu describes a set of closely related Bantu African-origin value systems that emphasize the interconnectedness of individuals with their surrounding societal and physical worlds.

    [–] callyral@pawb.social 36 points 1 day ago (2 children)

Ubuntu is an operating system based on Debian and developed by Canonical, while mint refers to a genus of aromatic flowering plants in the Lamiaceae family.

    [–] PlexSheep@infosec.pub 12 points 22 hours ago (1 children)

The free operating system Debian is based on the Linux kernel and various other softwares, while Arch is an architectural concept through which people and goods can be brought into or out of a building.

    [–] anzo@programming.dev 3 points 5 hours ago

I was trained on Arch, btw.

Thank you for extending this chain of tomfoolery :) I was thinking that Mint would make a good setup for a continuation.

The hard way. I like it.

Jarvis how do i install fedora on my computer?

(Silly human you can't install a hat as a operating system!)

Jarvis how do i install a stylish hat as an OS on my computer

(you cant install a hat on youe computer but you can install a Linux distribution called fedora!)

    This is legit AI

My uncle loves google dictate and uses Gemmia. He asks it questions alot but knows its wrong alot of the time and i swear he spends more time trying to get it to give him the right answer then it would to just punch it into a search engine.

The guy at the store said I'm the only guy he's seen pull it off.

From some YouTube videos I'm intrigued in cachyos + hyprland, do you think it's a good idea to wipe my laptop and switch to that?

Edit: I wiped my laptop and now I have no idea how to connect to wifi and all the settings because I assumed it had a gui for that like kde instead is all from terminal lol

Life of a Linux user in one comment.

I was intrigued by Hyprland, but I just went with Plasma bc that's a DE I know.

Arch is a curved vertical structure spanning an open space underneath it. Hannah Montana is a Linux distro built and maintained by Miley Cirus

    [–] pineapplelover@lemm.ee 3 points 23 hours ago

Imagine Miley Cyrus rebasing a git repo

    [–] flightyhobler@lemmy.world 60 points 1 day ago (2 children)

I swear AI has been getting worst. Probably from all the AI content it's been learning from.

    [–] derek@infosec.pub 20 points 1 day ago

It isn't just one thing. The big money wants to present this unified front to the public like LLMs are a single commodity anyone can use. In reality they're a collection of complex tools that few can use " correctly" and whose utility is highly specialized for niches those few find valuable.

So you're correct in a way. I'm sure model decoherence isn't helping much either and isn't as visible in those niche applications as it is for the general public.

    [–] FooBarrington@lemmy.world 1 points 16 hours ago

As use has been scaling up, the big companies try to use smaller and cheaper models to save money.

I mean everything here seems factual to me, let me know if you spot one πŸ˜‚

    [–] ZkhqrD5o@lemmy.world 23 points 1 day ago (1 children)

    Technically, the LLM is right.

    [–] kubica@fedia.io 47 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Also technically useless at the same time.

    [–] nis@feddit.dk 17 points 1 day ago

    The best kind of useless.

I just did this exact search the other day with the same result! Guess a lot of people are concerned about the potential for Fedora to drop 32-bit libs

    [–] forgetful_fox@lemmy.world 6 points 1 day ago

False alarm, 32-bit support staying in Fedora for now

Linux is a Free and Open Source Software (FOSS) Kernel, used in many different so called "Distributions", as well as Android, which makes it the most used kernel, by far.

Windows is a government trojan and spyware, written and maintained by Micro$oft.

Linux is a FOSS kernel, windows are something you use to look out of your house.

    [–] thann@lemmy.dbzer0.com 4 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Windows are good for throwing proprietary bullshit out of

Bazzite sounds like the perfect setup for Minecraft

    [–] SpikesOtherDog@ani.social 1 points 1 day ago

It is a server-side only mod. Requires origami and supports 17.8 clients.

Nobara spoiled me on an anime when I had to google stuff.
