Last-gen AMD GPUs and even some last-gen Nvidia GPUs beat Nvidia's current gen in performance and cost way less. The pricing of 40 series is absurd for the performance it provides.

Epic PC gamer redditors, contrary to what they are trying to portray themselves as for a long time, are in fact not rational actors but just mortal consumers like the rest of us susceptible to marketing ploys and price gouging from massive corporations with monopolies and duopolies.

I can't even comprehend who their market is anymore either. Can everybody else out there afford the the 4K screen, power source, CPU, SSD and AAA games to even make use of these GPUs? I was so happy when I could finally justify buying a 1050TI during the pandemic that could run all games I want. Are there actual humans with that hardware or is it just influencers selling to influencers on a pyramid scheme?

There are people with the hardware. They're targeting rich people who can afford it because they can make more money that way. In fact, the 1050 Ti is a scam in itself, as are all the so-called "low-end" cards. Essentially, the price is lower, but the performance is WAY lower, so the value is horrible. The best value is usually mid-tier, like 1060 Ti to 1070 Ti. They're trying to make massive profit margins off of poor people and enthusiasts who aren't going to be upgrading often, and give rich gamers the best value, expecting them to upgrade regularly so they can extract more profit from them. It's truly disgusting capitalist behavior.

I think that is still falling into the trap of "more performance is desirable". I did look at those 2 while considering the 1050 Ti but I wouldn't be able to afford either easily and so far I haven't hit a single good game that runs badly with my setup. I even managed to play some switch games on ryujinx quite well. Besides that, the 1070 Ti also has the exact problem I mentioned where they would probably require me to upgrade my old PSU and I also will probably only change my old 720p screen if it breaks as it works very well. I wouldn't say that a cheaper but less FPS-efficient card is a scam if they get the job done. All my hardware for games is from 6+ year tech and it gets the job done very well. Now if the objective is non-game GPU usage such as ML I agree that those are woefully inadequate. I think computer hardware reached a point where "upgrading" is way less desirable than "maintaining", with few exceptions such as SSDs.

What I'm saying is that cards like the 1050 Ti need to cost even less in order to reflect the performance they provide. The scam is the fact that they're increasing their profit margin to extract more profit out of people who can't afford better cards.

Makes sense. Honestly those cards are so old and popular that I see no ethical reason that they shouldn't just be open-sourced sometime soon for any manufacturer to make their own. It's not like the people who made it are getting paid residuals or anything. Everyday I am more sure that every commercial hardware/software technology should have a "open-source deadline" upon release at the bare minimum.

I can't bring myself to upgrade but my 1080 when the games coming out are absolute trash for the most part. Give me something that isn't hot garbage and needs a 40 series and I'll consider it

needs a 40 series

No one should buy a 40 series for anything. They're literally useless. Nvidia's own 30 series beats it, and AMD's last gen and current gen beats it too. Intel's $250 Arc A750 outperforms the $430 RTX 4060 in Cyberpunk at 1440p. The entire 40 series is a scam lol. It's honestly hilarious that Nvidia even released it.

What about AMD's gpus? Are they also underperforming last gen?
