The protest has never ended. We have been trying to communicate with Reddit admins, who seemed at first to be willing to talk to us, but we are only getting the silent treatment and threats to reopen the subreddit.

Just a heads up to everyone, there is now a megathread regarding Reddit and Reddit related apps shutdown over here: https://beehaw.org/post/872997

I'm going to lock this thread to help redirect the conversation over there. Sorry for any inconvenience caused!

[-] VerifiablyMrWonka@kbin.social 1 points 1 year ago

You're unlikely to see this as you've "locked it" on beehaw but this is the fediverse. So what you've actually done is defederate this post from the rest of us.

As I'm typing this it occurs the only people who will see it are on kbin.social waves

[-] sik0fewl@kbin.social 1 points 1 year ago

I think that's more of a kbin bug?

[-] VerifiablyMrWonka@kbin.social 1 points 1 year ago

I don't think so. Beehaw have locked the post so won't be accepting any replies locally or from federated instances. Since they don't accept the federated responses they don't forward them on anywhere else - so no other instances will be seeing these.

All legacy technical posts will remain available so that searching for help related to the browser is still available, but henceforth and until the reddit admins appropriately reply to our concerns, the only new submissions allowed will be ones that contain the cuddly fuzzy little animals from which the subreddit indirectly received its name:‌

The red panda! Also known as fire foxes. ‌

If you are looking for technical posts, we now have an official community on Kbin. Keep in mind that Lemmy also federates with Kbin. We continue to be around on Matrix as well.

Yay for Firefox!!

[-] billothekid2@kbin.social 2 points 1 year ago

This is the best part, and surprisingly wholesome.

[-] mPony@kbin.social 1 points 1 year ago

it's rather /aww/some of them.

[-] ono@lemmy.ca 2 points 1 year ago

we now have an official community on Kbin.

To be clear, they don't mean kbin.social, but another server that runs the Kbin software. Lemmy users wanting to join should search for this: https://fedia.io/m/firefox

[-] Spudger 9 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

btw, if anyone wants a shitty pic of a firefox then I declare this one now in the public domain.

Edit: I should add that I don't have a Reddit account to post this myself.

[-] DrNeurohax@kbin.social 2 points 1 year ago

Me: Okay, let see this picture of this stupid animal...
Click
Me: I will lay down my life for that precious creature! It's an entire universe of fluffy cuddle cuteness contained within a single creature! Also, not a bad pic.

[-] namesaregreat@beehaw.org 8 points 1 year ago

Full malicious compliance, I adore it and good for them.

[-] LollerCorleone@kbin.social 7 points 1 year ago

Common Firefox W

Also I am happy that they chose fedia.io to open their instance and not kbin.social. kbin really need to spread out more.

[-] stopthatgirl7@kbin.social 6 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

See, they did it very right - after they reopened to only fox pictures, they created a kbin and linked to it. That’s a good way to encourage folks to move.

[-] MonsieurHedge@kbin.social 5 points 1 year ago
[-] Lionir@beehaw.org 3 points 1 year ago

Link for people on Lemmy : !firefox@fedia.io

[-] atocci@kbin.social 1 points 1 year ago

Oh wow a Fedia magazine, I think this is the first I've seen.

[-] chuwu@lemmy.fmhy.ml 2 points 1 year ago

What?????? I had no idea red panda = firefox

[-] jgrim@discuss.online 2 points 1 year ago

Move to lemmy. r/nerf just moved to my instance discuss.online/c/nerf. Change all your content to be about foxes getting fired from their jobs.

[-] stopthatgirl7@kbin.social 4 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

Um, that’s basically what they did? They changed it to only be fox and red panda pics, and linked to their kbin. They say so in the bottom of the post.

[-] jgrim@discuss.online 1 points 1 year ago

I see now. I didn't realize that's what that was.

[-] niktemadur@kbin.social 2 points 1 year ago

who seemed at first to be willing to talk to us, but we are only getting the silent treatment and threats

Seriously, what in the heck is going on over there?
Are they swamped and overwhelmed? They are being indifferent-to-hostile. Do they not care about anything other than the myopic short-term goal of their previous API and app and A.I., damn everything and everyone else?

I don't understand. This sounds like a textbook definition of dysfunctional.
What an emotionally incompetent fiasco. I don't even want to know what that place is going to look and feel like in a month, or a year.

[-] Blazze@kbin.social 3 points 1 year ago

We can only guess, but what we know is they have a profit driving, hard, inflexible timeline. Maybe they're broke, maybe they were given an ultimatum from investors, maybe they just want to watch the world burn.

[-] supermurs@kbin.social 2 points 1 year ago

Love this! <3

[-] Penguincoder@beehaw.org -2 points 1 year ago

So the solution to them not listening to you, is to give in???

Fucking stay dark. and stop being doormats.

[-] stopthatgirl7@kbin.social 9 points 1 year ago

Did you see the whole thing? They changed it to only allow pics of foxes and red pandas, and said for actually technical stuff, to go to their kbin. They’re doing it right - making it unusable while sending people here for their new community/magazine.

[-] Lionir@beehaw.org 7 points 1 year ago

I would not say that moving to kbin is giving in..

[-] aplomBomb@midwest.social 5 points 1 year ago

Actually read the post dingus

[-] Penguincoder@beehaw.org 0 points 1 year ago

Thanks, I'll do that.
