My wife and I like to play games together, but PC devs often skip couch co-op options. For example, I bought Halo Master Chief Collection because I know Halo co-op is legendary and I never really played Halo growing up, nor did she. But the PC version specifically doesn't have split screen co-op where the console version does.

We already own and play Stardew Valley, Outward (fantastic game if you aren't aware), and Civ 5 (we prefer it over 6).

So what other options have you enjoyed that I may have missed?

Magicka and Magicka 2 are great! Can't recommend them enough. Both are on sale rn for like $2.50

Does Magicka support controllers?

[-] ADandHD@vlemmy.net 3 points 1 year ago

Sure does! I actually prefer using a controller.

This is how divorces happen. Magicka is an amazing "why the hell did you do that" co-op game. Will test the mettle of your relationship as soon as you realize how easy it is to nuke your partner with an opposing spell.

Will y'all stop making me poorer, damnit! 😉

Extremely weird pick, but Octodad is incredible and has a genius multiplayer mode, where you each control different limbs of the same character.

I played the whole game through with a friend and we had an awesome time :) you can do left/right, or arms/legs, or there’s even an option to randomly assign limbs to each player on each level. Left/right is a really great bonding experience as you learn to walk together haha

Rocket league is a great split screen game!

[-] Omnimater@sh.itjust.works 2 points 1 year ago

I love rocket league and just absolutely forget it has local play for years at a time.

Spelunky 2 is fun

if you want some chaos; unrailed, overcooked, and plateup are good

Lara Croft and The Guardian of Light is really nice coop

Duck Game! The downloadable internet levels are bizarre and creative. It's so much chaotic fun.

Not split screen but co-op battleblock theater is fun. Also, my very first post on lemmy!

I really like phogs. It isn't quite split-screen, but you can play it together in couch co-op.

„Human Fall Flat“ is pretty good. I’ve played it on switch with a bud and we had a good time. Especially the times we broke the level by sheer accident.

The gears of war franchise has the most underrated coop campaigns in my opinion. They're among my favorite games for coop. Also splinter cell: double agent, although a bit dated at this point is still super fun.

KeyWe is the newest one I've played with my wife. It's a game where you both play kiwis operating a relay station that has some quirks of its own.

Other games I would suggest:

  • Overcooked
  • Catastronauts
  • Moving Out
  • Lovers in a Dangerous Spacetime
  • Helldivers
  • Gauntlet
  • Magicka
  • Age of Wonders III (in hotseat mode)

If you like beat 'em ups:

  • Streets of Rage 4
  • Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder's Revenge
  • Scott Pilgrim vs The World
  • Mother Russia Bleeds

I'm not sure if it has split-screen or split-screen mods but check out Dinkum too.

Blur, the racing game from 2010. It's like Mario kart but with realism. It's abandonware now, you'll have to pick it up from an abandonware website...

But it's REALLY FUN.

I used to drive a mobile video game theater for work and this shit was bread and butter, a bunch of screechy Roblox fans are mad their parents won't let them sit out of the party and play on their laptops? Blur and never hear from them for the rest of the party.

A couple 6 year olds who have never gamed before on anything but a phone? Tell them to hold R and get them through the menu a couple times, they're set.

Some adults who haven't gamed since n64? Oh. They down.
