TL;DR: Build quality was absolute shit and it literally shook itself apart on takeoff, killing 1 pilot and injuring 4 others
Imagine being a test pilot and that's what takes you out.
Even the effective aircraft can be dangerous as fuck.
More pilots died on training flights with the Sopwith Camel (one of the most combat effective planes of WW1) than died in combat.
Lakehurst NJ has a rough track record when it comes to airships.
Drones can now do the loitering job of blimps but without being mumakil ass large.
