Ergonomic, split and other weird keyboards

Rules

Keep it ergo

Posts must be of/about keyboards that have a clear delineation between the left and right halves of the keyboard, column stagger, or both. This includes one-handed (one half doesn't exist, what clearer delineation is that!?)

i.e. no regular non-split¹ row-stagger and no non-split¹ ortholinear²

¹ split meaning a separation of the halves, whether fixed in place or entirely separate, both are fine.
² ortholinear meaning keys layed out in a grid

Recently assembled my first split keyboard - keycaps are from Yuzu Keycaps, and the case is 3D printed in wood PLA and then sanded, stained, and varnished.

WOW! This has it all! I mean, all I care about myself anyway: 42 keys, trackpad AND trackball (though I could do with just one of them) and 2 rotaries, and at the right place. Looks aren't what I'd go for, but that's a matter of personal taste, and yet it still is a well made and beautiful one. Congrats and enjoy!

That's a really cool design!

Is that a little mouse pad on the left?

yes! i use it for scrolling

sweet, how do you handle left click and right click?

[–] andicraft@lemmy.blahaj.zone 3 points 1 week ago (1 children)

either using the thumb rocker on the left side or with an auto mouse layer that turns some regular keys into mouse keys

Is the thumb rocker visible in the photo?

look under the thumb keys!

Oh, that's subtle!

Depends on what layer I’m using, but mostly I use the right encoder for slow scrolling. The left one does volume most of the time.

If I’m on the macro layer the right one adjusts the brightness of the lights in my room 😌

Thank you for the answer!
