They've probably got a corporate investor with an interest in aggressively pushing out their middling ai offering. Y'know, for shareholder interest. And to reduce market share for a browser competing with their own.

Mozilla is a non-profit, but they are basically funded by Google in exchange for keeping it as their default search engine. Surely some group wants their AI to be Mozilla's default and is showering them with money.

Nearly 80% of the Mozilla Foundation's funds come from Google.

It's not a secret, or even partially hidden who might be pushing for this.

Let's be honest, it's not that much money all things considered. I'm just guessing but I'm pretty sure.
