I'm a novice so go gently it's kinda my first time. I hope I'm in the right place.

I recently installed Mint on an old laptop to use as a browser for my TV. Everything has gone great so far except when I turn off the TV the laptop goes to sleep and won't wake. The TV is set to primary display.

I've turned off all of the power saving options and set Screen off/Suspend/lid coose to never or nothing. Turned off the screen saver and light. I checked the BIOS (it's actually BIOS and really that old) and no power settings that would effect sleep or wake.

But it still goes to sleep when I turn off the TV. This would be tolerable if it would actually wake from sleep. So the only way to get it to come on is to pull the battery out and force a restart.

Problem #1 - Goes to sleep when TV is off

Problem #2 - Won't wake unless I pull the battery

I had a similar problem with a laptop running mint with an external monitor. The solution in this thread fixed it for me.

Also I remember people saying that setting the lid option through gnome tweaks (you have to install it) works too but I didnt needed it.

If young broccoli's answer doesn't work then it may be HDMI CEC from the TV

Consumer Electronics Control (CEC) is a feature of HDMI designed to control HDMI connected devices[1][2] by using only one remote controller; individual CEC enabled devices can command and control each other without user intervention

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Consumer_Electronics_Control

Have a browse through your TV's settings and there should be a way to turn off HDMI CEC

Thanks everyone I got it to stop going to sleep when the TV is turned off by changing the main display back to the laptop screen and just mirroring the laptop to the TV.
