I just cannot fathom it, I can’t leave the house without a shower, I just don’t get it

[–] glitchdx@lemmy.world 3 points 1 day ago

I can say that my standards dropped significantly after being homeless for a while a few years back. The place I'm living in now just doesn't get hot water in the shower. The depression certainly isn't helping either.

Wasn’t there one convention that was turning people away for smelling too bad?

My buddy’s parents used to own a comic book store, and they regularly had to turn away Magic The Gathering players for smelling too bad. They even had a sign that they’d put up on the door on Fridays (Friday was MTG night) that said something along the lines of “we reserve the right to refuse service if you smell like you haven’t showered all week”

these places really need to get some kind of mental health assistance outreach recommendation. IDK , a depression hotline number or fucking something.

I was once at a convention and talked to a comic book store owner. He gave me his card and i went there a few weeks later. The store was pretty cool, you had to walk down two stairs to even reach the "bunker" it was very modern and clean. It was friday, and apparently that's when they played MTG that day. I have never even seen people play card games aside from the few at the convention. Holy shit, that store, especially around the tables where the people played smelled absolutely rancid. I'm used to bad smelling apartments because of my job, but this was crazy. I told the owner that i'll go out to smoke a few times. I don't smoke, i didn't want to puke on the floor.

Don't care whats it's for, I want to go!

[–] dp@thebrainbin.org 19 points 3 days ago

rainfurrest comes to mind, though there have been others that likely also qualify

Yeah, I cannot understand how people can go out into public spaces for prolonged periods of time without showering beforehand. Get your head in the game people! I can't even smell and I know I smell infinitely better than those showerless people because I shower, use deodorant, and a little cologne, unlike them.

[–] Flauschige_Lemmata@lemmy.world 10 points 3 days ago (2 children)

Cologne makes me nauseous. I hate when people around me use it. I prefer sweaty people

[–] MJKee9@lemmy.world 3 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Being showered and cologne-free are not mutually exclusive.

No. Being showered is definitely my preferred state.

[–] AceFuzzLord@lemmy.zip 3 points 3 days ago

Fair enough.

[–] SatansMaggotyCumFart@piefed.world 38 points 3 days ago (2 children)

I shower twice a year whether I need it or not and it’s not my problem if that schedule coincides with the furcon thank you very much.

THAT COUNTS AS ONE OF MY SHOWERS!

[–] VinnyDaCat@lemmy.world 13 points 2 days ago

I had to check the date on this post due to the XIV avatar.

Definitely keep clean and use deo, but I remember the last major XIV convention in NA was so poorly planned out that it had massive lines of people waiting outside in the late July summer heat in Las Vegas. It's a bit of an unfortunate situation.

[–] moshankey@lemmy.world 40 points 3 days ago (3 children)

True. Been to enough other cons. Definitely stay away from the gaming rooms.

[–] Godric@lemmy.world 17 points 3 days ago

I've been to a few myself, hooo yeah it can get pungent.

[–] schema@lemmy.world 7 points 3 days ago

Gamer gravy

[–] Fredthefishlord@lemmy.blahaj.zone 6 points 3 days ago (1 children)

The one con I sent to smelled fine even in the gaming room, interestingly enough

[–] NannerBanner@literature.cafe 2 points 1 day ago

Maybe it was just the size of the convention center (30 foot ceilings, holy volumes of air, batman!), but that was my experience as well.

[–] bearboiblake@pawb.social 27 points 3 days ago (2 children)

but what if you're a species that hates water, please be more considerate & inclusive /j

[–] Hideakikarate@sh.itjust.works 16 points 3 days ago

Yeah, where are the dust baths for chinchillas?

[–] Godric@lemmy.world 13 points 3 days ago

Shit, I never took the frothing at the mouth rabies-antivaxxer demographic into account before I posted this, fuuuuuuckkk

[–] etchinghillside@reddthat.com 11 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Why don’t you appreciate my natural marinade?

[–] Godric@lemmy.world 12 points 3 days ago (2 children)

Marinade is for steaks, not people!

[–] LORDSMEGMA@sh.itjust.works 7 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Marinading isn't even for good steaks!

[–] merc@sh.itjust.works 2 points 1 day ago

Marinading is for meats that are too tough to cook with minimal preparation. If your hunk of meat needs to be marinated before you eat it, it's not a steak.

[–] KittyCat@lemmy.world 4 points 2 days ago

Idk, compared to anime cons the furries are really good about following this.
