Wow. He removed a feature for disabled people and in the next moment he added one for disabled people. What a shit show

But I'm disabled and I don't wanna be associated with NFT bros :(

Steve Huffman: "how do we squeeze more money out of the idiots that stayed? Ah yes, NFTs, those will work, worked for Trump!""

[-] sparky678348@lemm.ee 1 points 1 year ago

Just to be clear, when you say spez you are referring to the r/Jailbait moderator? That Spez?

What a prick that guy

I mean... It’s technically true, but unfair. Back then you could add anyone to moderate your subreddit and they didn’t need to accept, they were just made a moderator. He, and every other high profile person on Reddit, were probably listed as a moderator in thousands of subreddits back then.

There’s plenty to hate Spez for (like allowing the subreddit to exist in the first place).

[-] Coelacanth@lemmy.world 2 points 1 year ago

You are correct about that, but Spez also created a custom unique Pimp Hat award for the top mod of r/jailbait so I don't think he necessarily hated the situation.

[-] sparky678348@lemm.ee 1 points 1 year ago

Holy shit, will you please provide a source for that. That sounds glorious

[-] tias@discuss.tchncs.de 2 points 1 year ago

Yeah this accusation is dishonest to some extent, but it's not entirely without teeth. If Huffman was decent human being he should have removed himself, not stayed as a mod for years.

Can we have Spez fight Zucksberg instead?

I feel like Spez vs. Elon would make more sense given the hits to both their platforms on the same day. Mark is sitting back doing nothing, secure in the fact he's still got most of the Boomers/Gen Xs in his grasp until they finally die out.

[-] ackzsel@kbin.social 1 points 1 year ago

Hear me out: All three will fight a hungry 600 kg polar bear instead.

[-] megane_kun@lemmy.world 1 points 1 year ago

Wouldn't that end up as porn?

[-] JoShmoe@social.fossware.space 2 points 1 year ago

If that's your thing then yes.

To be honest, IDK if it's just my app, but I haven't seen a single ad on the official app... litelarly not one single ad 🤷.

Maybe it's because I don't live in the US, IDK.

[-] JesusTheCarpenter@lemmy.world 0 points 1 year ago

I live in UK an I have seen ads every few posts. Have you been using it for long? Do you use some sort of VPN or network wide adblocker? Or maybe you didjtn realize they were ads as they are disguised as posts.

[-] PCChipsM922U@sh.itjust.works 1 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

For like... 2 or 3 years. And no, no ad blocker, no VPN. I do have the Xiaomi ad services disabled, but I don't think that is the reason, cuz I used to run the same app on an Asus Zenfone 3 Max before this phone, and it never showed any ads there as well. And no, I don't think I missinterpeted ads as a post, it's not my first social network, lol 😂. I can make a video scrolling if you'd like, you'll see there are no ads as well.

I think it's the location. I have no other explanation. IDK if they use AdSense, but if they don't and their ads are not personalized (or maybe they are, but they just have no ads for local stuff around where I live, Reddit is not something that's popular here, like maybe 100, 200 people use it actively), then that is most likely the culprit why no ads are shown.

I wonder if I using a US based VPN will show ads in the app.

If you're in a really low-use region and/or low commercial interest region it's possible no advertisers are bidding on it I guess.
