Who are we?
We are digital librarians. Among us are represented the various reasons to keep data -- legal requirements, competitive requirements, uncertainty of permanence of cloud services, distaste for transmitting your data externally (e.g. government or corporate espionage), cultural and familial archivists, internet collapse preppers, and people who do it themselves so they're sure it's done right. Everyone has their reasons for curating the data they have decided to keep (either forever or For A Damn Long Time). Along the way we have sought out like-minded individuals to exchange strategies, war stories, and cautionary tales of failures.
We are one. We are legion. And we're trying really hard not to forget.

Donated! Don't think it will help much, but here goes nothing.
It sounds like it's MORE than just the funding issue but the funding issue is one of the big, CORE reasons why. Honestly, hosting this stuff also puts a target on the host-er's back, so not sure if they even want to take that risk on anymore. The internet Wild West has been dead for a long while.
Ugh, a dagger in my heart. That sucks, I really like Myrient. Anyone know what their Discord and/or Telegram channels have to say about this? I don't have an account for either (nor do I want one).
I also did just upload a copy of a screenshot (not made by me). The screenshot here is the message from Discord or Telegram: https://lemmy.ml/pictrs/image/3ce1c9cc-7332-4367-9acd-ed6948e5e735.png
Thanks for this. The message is really disheartening to read. But points #2 and #3 in particular just piss me off. Just shitty moves all around and of course AI is somehow involved in this. We can't ever have nice things, man.
as i start to work harder on my 8080 emu with a goal to get cp/m working then move on to NES… this kind of stuff makes me sad. :(
