We can’t just record it from the streaming service?
Flippanarchy
Flippant Anarchism. A lighter take on social criticism with the aim of agitation.
Post humorous takes on capitalism and the states which prop it up. Memes, shitposting, screenshots of humorous good takes, discussions making fun of some reactionary online, it all works.
This community is anarchist-flavored. Reactionary takes won't be tolerated.
Don't take yourselves too seriously. Serious posts go to !anarchism@lemmy.dbzer0.com

Absolutely no right-wing jokes. This includes "Anarcho"-Capitalist concepts.

Absolutely no redfash jokes. This includes anything that props up the capitalist ruling classes pretending to be communists.

This is an anarchist comm. You don't have to be an anarchist to post, but you should at least understand what anarchism actually is. We're not here to educate you.

No shaming people for being anti-electoralism. This should be obvious from the above point but apparently we need to make it obvious to the turbolibs who can't control themselves. You have the rest of lemmy to moralize.

That's what the pirates do. Just get an HDMI splitter and put one end into a DVR
Wow, thank you for warning us about this horrible anti corporate profit thing so that we all know what to not accidentally do.
Btw for others, you can’t directly record from streaming service because thankfully windows has their best interest in mind and made your pc is compliant to recognise drm and the output is just black. This is why netflix on linux is limited to 720p.
Definitely don’t get these hdmi splitters that strip the drm to circumvent this.
Why the hell would you want to record (real time) streaming services?
If you're going to pirate it then just download the video embedded in the stream.
Fucking amateur hour over here. Might as well get out the VCR.
Because the stream is encrypted.
Of course provider might vary but i am speaking worst case like the N brand steaming service.
A simplified explanation is that decryption keys are delivered when a device with access is playing DRM protected media in order to make it viewable. You can then intercept this with various tools, take those keys and use them to decrypt such media by essentially acting as that device. A "WEB-DL" is when something has been successfully downloaded and decrypted using the right set of keys.
Id have to research this to truly understand it but thank you for sharing your knowledge.
