I guess you could say that, because on Linux it's borked. On Windows apparently it's also unplayable for some. You have to buy an Xbox for it to be guaranteed playable.

What makes you say that? 2/3 reports on ProtonDB say it plays fine, and it's even Steam Deck verified, it can't be that borked.

What an odd question. I have a SteamDeck and a PC running Linux. It's borked. On Nvidia GPUs, it crashes with a FHC00 error, and on SteamDeck it has a black screen that's only just been fixed by Proton bleeding edge.

Huh, googling that Nvidia error, it sounds common. I'm surprised nobody has reported that on ProtonDB, really seems like the kind of information that should be there.

Sounds like I won't have any issues though, at least. Running AMD and I defaulted Steam to proton-ge-latest ages ago.

I have. It seems that protondb doesn't actually refresh the reports very frequently or something? I'm not sure.

I have since gotten it working using the CachyOS Proton version and suggested launch options.

I have a 5900x, 9070xt system running linux mint. Initially it worked great, but by the time I did the 2nd wristband race I had multiple crashes and that race was dropping into the 20fps maybe lower range even after dropping to high setting 1440p.

I've read Bluetooth controller might also be a problem which I was using.

Going to try some different proton versions tonight, hopefully I can get it to run better for me. But I've used experimental and ge10-34 I think so far.

Interesting, might be one to wait on then, see if it gets some proton patch notes at some point, or maybe an update to address some Steam Deck bugs (I highly doubt they care about Linux in general, being a MS studio)

Well, pretty sure my issue is LTS distro and new demanding game. Put kisak-mesa and proton 11 beta. It's running way better.

Lol. Keep dreaming Microsoft.

Do we actually want truly exclusive games? There's another active thread in Games right now about how PS5's Soros underperformed on sales, and everyone there is talking about how they would love to play the game but it isn't worth the $1k it would take to get started with a PS5 console.

[–] Joelk111@lemmy.world 2 points 2 weeks ago

I don't think anyone wants exclusive games unless they've fallen into tribalism for massive tech companies. The console wars should be based on hardware, not exclusive games or features.

Making games exclusive for 1 year then releasing it on other platforms would be a good way to go. I want Age Of Empires and old Halo games to be available everywhere.
