Meh. I'm not gonna pretend they didn't identify a real problem with Pride -- I've definitely seen pride floats from rampantly anti-lgbt corporations in my local parade -- but I do think they misunderstood a lot of what makes Pride successful, which is that it is fun and happy. It's hard to recruit people to be queer or allies or leftists if you require that everyone be miserable and ashamed constantly to be a good person. Pride is persuasive because people see us being happy and proud and think things like "well if it makes them happy." Gay shame reinforces the belief that conservatives have that they have the secret to happiness (jesus) and all heathens are secretly (or in this case openly) miserable all the time.

I see this with many subcultures. So like when people where afraid to come out of the closet it seemed like everyone gay was so nice but really its because someone willing to live outside of the closet either had to have special qualities or learn to be nice because they had a such an adverse condition. As being gay became moe acceptale you start meeting more jerk gays. I mean that is my experience. I have seen the same thing with furries where my experience has been with very freindly people with thick skins because they appreciate someone who accepts them and thats enough. If it becomes accepted enough I expect to meet more jerks in that group who likely hide their activities.

Seems like they have solid critiques, but tbh, I think I’d find them a bit tiring to be around. Shit is hard enough, sometimes it’s nice to take a break from raging at the horrors and enjoy being in a joyful space with your community and allies.
