Leeds needs to do the world a favour...
It's been an honour to share the experience with you all this season. So many ups and downs, thought we'd choked more than a few times, but we pulled it off in the end. Surreal feeling.
And we've still got one big one to go. COYG
Yeah it has. A small group but a good one.
I’ll admit this season I had doubts creep in especially with selection and rotation (and I still think Arteta has room to improve here, wait till he does) but Arteta has proven without doubt that his methods and process are effective.
We fucking did it!!!
COME ON YOU GUNNERS!!!!!
FUCKING CHAMPIONS!!
GET ON THERE, AND SUCK ON THAT ALL YOU HATERS!!!!!
I feel like a kid again!!
And spurs relegation might still be on
Dowman gets a PL medal right? Is he the youngest ever to get one?
The champions are given 40 commemorative medals made of silver, which are 2.25in (5.7cm) in diameter.
They can be distributed to the manager, players and officials, as the club see fit, as long as every player who has made at least five Premier League appearances during the title-winning season gets one.
Additional medals may only be presented with the consent of the Premier League Board, and that will only be granted if more than 39 players have made at least five PL appearances during the campaign.
Source PL website, last year.
So, if you made at least 5 appearances, you get a medal automatically. If you didn't make 5 appearances, you have to wait until all the players who did get their medal. If there are any left over at that point, the club can decide to give you one.
Apparently Dowman, Nwaneri and Norgaard automatically get medals because they had 5, 6 and 6 sub appearances, respectively. Nobody else made more than 1 but fewer than 5 sub appearances. There are a total of 24 players who get medals this way, leaving 16 extra medals. I guess Kepa will get one, even though he didn't make any PL appearances.
My guess is that the rest will go to coaches / staff. There are other players who played a bit this season in other competitions, players like Marli Salmon, Andre Harrington-Annous, etc. But, I don't think they contributed enough to the PL victory compared to say Nicolas Jover. Maybe Per Mertesacker? I wonder if anybody who isn't at the club anymore will get one. Edu? Carlos Cuesta? Maybe an outside shot for an important former player like Granit Xhaka?
They can also request more medals, iirc. I assume they might have to pay for some of it if it's too egregious but they might do it anyway given... yknow... 22 years.
Wrighty and Wenger need one each. Give an honorary one to Rocky if Wrighty won't take it
Now they have almost 2 weeks to prep for the CL final.
I wonder if they'll try some things against Palace that could be useful against PSG. IMO part of playing Havertz against Burnley was to see if he might be an option to start at #9 against PSG, and to get some minutes into his legs so he's fully fit for that game.
It's interesting because neither team really cares about the league for that final match, and both are prepping for a European final. Maybe Arteta can call up Oliver Glasner and arrange what they want to work on as if it were a pre-season friendly.
call up Oliver
Well, why not. The goal for both sides is also in the interest of the league in general. I’d expect us to want to be as easy on Palace as we can be, really.
Wrap everyone in bubblewrap
I'm sure Palace will approach it as a friendly too, they don't want injuries ahead of their European cup final either, and their spot in the league isn't in danger. You probably don't want to risk someone like Saka or Saliba. OTOH, they have rhythm now and after playing twice a week for 9 months or so, 2 weeks off might not be ideal.
But, it's a great chance to give players who might be needed in the final some playing time.
Well, yeah basically, and both teams give some people a run on the paddock who generally don’t get a crack. Might even be a good game to give Timber and Merino if he’s ready some time.
It makes sense. The league, and by that I mean the teams themselves, want all the teams in finals to win them, the best way to help that is easy prep.
The only reason why not that I can think of is that both teams are supposed to try to win, even if the game is sort of meaningless. But, as long as they try to win who cares if they also practice situations that might come up in their respective European finals.
