A very strange story, indeed. In the light of the threat of excommunicating this Pius group for not obeying the church. They want to consecrate bishops without papal consent and want to turn back to "the good old times" where mass was held in Latin and women had absolutely no place in church.

yeah thats basically a split. like the anglicans run under the king who appoints the archbishop of canteberry. its just another protestant schism basically. Im surprised there is not one still doing latin or something for them to join already.

But while protestantism (at least in its original form) was kind of progressive, those Pius guys are anything but. They consider the second Vaticanum a step into hell or something.

They are probably jealous of the times when a fire and brimstone teaching church was ruling the world and when it was legal for them to burn "witches" and "heretics".

certainly many protestant offshoots have not been progressive though. Prosperity doctrine anyone.
