Though I'm not in the Bay Area that happened locally here, too.

Seems like they are changing their mission from "training and offering work to people in different communities with different challenges" to "leverage the new found sector of junk shop/thrift gold digging and pretend we are still going to help people but make it harder for those people to get to work or the cheap goods for poor people to get to but thankfully Goodwill can ebay shit for mo' money now."

But what do I know.

It turns out that retail thrifting is also subject to Walmart-style scaling economics.

(Goodwill CEO Tim) O’Neal said. “What people are calling a Super Goodwill in the Bay Area is just the way we think of Goodwill in other markets across the country.”

I think the comment about bigger stores means less employees overall is a fair assessment.

I can think of a few places in my part of SF that could fit these large superstores. They would probably do well and be busy in SF, but I wonder if they could do well enough to pay the expensive rent.
