It's disappointing as a Giants fan. They couldn't even own their prejudice against the LGBT community. If they were like "I'm against LGBT people" at least they would have said it, but to pussy-foot it by saying "oh I'm just Christian and that's how I was raised but I have nothing against the LGBT people"

The Giants also have activations for black pride night, Filipino night, Japanese night, etc.. If they wrote some statements or refused to wear whatever jersey/hat that was being promoted for those nights people would be unsettled, but because it's LGBT some people think it's not equivalent.

Feels wrong.

I’m sure I’m in the minority, but I don’t think team uniforms is the place for any political or societal statement, save for perhaps Jackie Robinson day. And that’s only because it’s still baseball related.

At best it’s performative, at worst it’s just a capitalistic ploy to sell more merch.

It's all a ploy to sell tickets and merch. When they give out Hello Kitty keychains and jerseys the ticket prices are always higher. Same thing with all the heritage activations (ethnicity celebration games, firefighter celebration games etc) and it does work.

I have mixed emotions about it.

My feeling is have all the themed days you want, and stock the team store with rainbow hats (or hello kitty, or whatever.)

Issue for me is changing the uniform, as it puts people in a weird position. While I think the pitchers here are bigoted and homophobic, I support the choice they have to wear the standard hat (which, if I’m understanding it correctly, they always had the choice to simply wear the bog standard hat: the decision to write bible verses is where they crossed the line).
