When browsing Steam, ever wonder if the publisher behind a game has a history of shutting down always-online titles and making them unplayable?

I built a userscript that checks the publisher on every store.steampowered.com page against the Stop Killing Games Dead Game List. If the publisher is known for killing games, you get a small amber banner above the purchase area with the specific reason.

Currently flags 16 publishers: Ubisoft, EA, Microsoft (Activision/Blizzard), Warner Bros, Bandai Namco, Sony, Square Enix, 2K, NCSoft, SEGA, Capcom, Rovio, Gameloft, NetEase, Nexon, Atari

Examples:

  • Ubisoft → Shut down The Crew (2024), lawsuit in France
  • EA → Anthem killed Jan 2026, unplayable
  • Activision → Warzone Mobile killed Apr 2026
  • Sony → Concord killed after 2 weeks

Design:

  • Matches Steam’s native DRM warning styling (amber gradient)
  • Dismissible, does not block purchases
  • Links to per-publisher explainer docs with evidence
  • No telemetry, open source

Install:

  1. Install ViolentMonkey
  2. Open https://codeberg.org/kimmitk/skg-publisher-warning/raw/branch/main/skg-warning.user.js
  3. Click Install

Should I not buy Sony games on GOG and play on a computer that Sony can't access?

Probably better than nothing!
