Yo. Old school like Morbid Angel, Deicide, Cannibal Corpse, Hypocrisy, Nocturnus, Suffocation, Malevolent Creation... Etc
Entirely. Very much the same here. Anything on the canonical list is usually of interest as well: https://www.deathmetal.org/metal
I mostly listen to doom and thrash but I recently found Hellhammer which I’ve been digging. Possessed’s 7 Churches album is awesome. Not sure if those are death? Haha
Is there an active metal channel somewhere on the fediverse? I was thinking of creating one if there isn’t.
I get a lot of good recommendations following hashtags on Mastodon. I'm subscribed to #blackmetal and there's new recordings out at least daily.
New Sammath is glorious.
Those are from the transitional period. Hellhammer, Sodom, Bathory, and Slayer sort of laid the groundwork for death metal; Master and Possessed fleshed it out. By 1985, Sepultura had one version of the finished product, but really Morbid Angel, Massacra, and Deicide finalized the scope of the genre. Great period in history!
That's an almost death genre by itself.
I like MALON. You may check it out https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BnUkEmmBD6Q&list=RDEMIceVSnhRSjs0v6ah47d8fg&index=16
Vibrión was another Death Metal stappe. Rest in Peace Death Metal! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BkUGKeqhScE
A little? I love Carcass. Not sure if that qualifies. Also I's Between Two Worlds (2006) and the Abbath self-titled album (2016). I'm more into doom and thrash, broadly speaking.
That first Carcass album really is amazing. I am rather fond of older Immortal, which might also be to your taste.
I had to stop listening to rock of any kind after seeing Spinal Tap. Same with prog; I put all my prog albums into boxes when punk happened. I've been watching Beato and Andy Edwards on YT for the last few years and they have relit my enthusiasm for rock in general.
Interesting. I mostly listen to classical, but still tune in for the solid death metal material. I do not consider it rock, more like the bastard spawn of UK hardcore, prog, and NWOBHM.
My tastes are much more varied than when I was a kid. I listen to all sorts today. It just has to be good. Of course, like any sane person I refuse to listen to country and western ;)
Also more into the doomy stuff, but I like a bit of death metal too. I'm not always sure what belongs where genre-wise, but I know some of the stuff I like qualifies.
There's a great crossover area of death-doom and doom-death. Stuff like Skepticism, Thergothon, Asphyx, Incantation, Cianide, and Derketa come to mind.
There's a few there I haven't heard and shall have to check out, thanks!
I love most varieties of death metal. A friend of mine just showed me this album yesterday and it's sick: https://music.youtube.com/playlist?list=OLAK5uy_mw6tBoXi_tr36qlUZfTMGx-L9CprriCJ0&feature=share
I will give this one a solid listen later. Thanks for posting it!
You should check out the album by Dream Widow, and the movie Studio 666 that it was made for, both great.
Will throw it on the review queue. Thanks for mentioning it.
