I've only subscribed to YouTube Premium for the past two months, and I like the ad-free experience and Music streaming bundled in one price, PHP159 or $3/month. Will this probably my last? Yesterday morning, Google automatically charged me for my YouTube Premium subscription through my e-wallet service.

It was successfully deducted, but the service didn't update its validity. Does Google want me to charge twice, or they want me to go back on uBlock Origin on Librewolf (desktop) and NewPipe on Android? lol

EDIT (2023-10-22): Google recently refunded the amount to my e-wallet. So far, my account is still active. If ever Google bans my account, then probably my domain will be banned.

Just go back to uBlock Origin. No reason to give Google more money, they don't respect their customers.

[-] noodlejetski@lemm.ee 25 points 10 months ago

you're not their customer, the ad companies are.

[-] 2xsaiko@discuss.tchncs.de 8 points 10 months ago

And this is exactly why I will never pay for Premium (again; I unfortunately did for a while) or any other Google service

[-] sir_reginald@lemmy.world 6 points 10 months ago

true, we're the product offered to ad companies

No reason

I have reason: Costs. Recently in my region, Spotify racked their price from ₱129 to ₱149, ₱10 difference with YouTube Premium.

Plus, Spotify keeps shoving their podcast platform on my feed, which is annoying, and I'm only streaming music. I rather see or listen to something from my followed channels.

P.S. I only created a Google account just for YouTube and for my Android device, nothing else. I don't use other mainstream Google products.

Wait until you hear that podcasts are gonna come to YouTube Music

[-] Companion1666@lemmy.world 3 points 10 months ago

So there is no escape? Fck me then.

[-] JackGreenEarth@lemm.ee 6 points 10 months ago

Use uBlock Origin on PC to watch YouTube without ads, NewPipe on mobile, and InnerTune for free ad free music using the YouTube music library, and no need to give Google money.

[-] Zellith@kbin.social 2 points 10 months ago

Yeah I have greyjay, newpipe and revanced on my phone in case youtube does some funky shit. I think piped.video works on pc too.

[-] Companion1666@lemmy.world 1 points 10 months ago

InnerTune

I will try this later. Thank you!

[-] toasteecup@lemmy.world 2 points 10 months ago

So far they said that they plan to offer podcasts for free if that helps any.

[-] can@sh.itjust.works 1 points 10 months ago

Apple Music has held off on including podcasts so far.

I primarily use iOS to watch YouTube. I haven’t found good solutions.

It’s the media platform I use the most. With Premium, I’m evenly supporting at least 50 creators that I watch regularly. I couldn’t meaningfully do that for the same price through Patreon.

[-] Chobbes@lemmy.world 2 points 10 months ago

The best solution I’ve found for the YouTube shenanigans on iOS is the baking soda and vinegar apps.

[-] blackkn1ght@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 points 10 months ago

Sideload uYou plus with Altstore if you want to keep all the account functionality.

Download Yattee from the App store if you prefer to watch with Piped.

Sideload an alternative YouTube app with Altstore

[-] Z4rK@lemmy.world 1 points 10 months ago

It’s cool that the option exist, but it isn’t worth it to me.

Do not issue a chargeback through your bank if you care about your Google account. They will close it. Talk to Google to resolve the payment issue.

[-] Companion1666@lemmy.world 2 points 10 months ago* (last edited 10 months ago)

I'm not even using my bank's debit card as my Google's payment method. I linked my e-wallet account to my Google account.

I don't risk my bank's savings.

[-] scytale@lemm.ee 42 points 10 months ago* (last edited 10 months ago)

It's not about your bank account, it's about google possibly banning your google account if you do a chargeback. If you don't care about losing your google account, then you're fine.

[-] Companion1666@lemmy.world 3 points 10 months ago* (last edited 10 months ago)

It's weird because I've been using my e-wallet as my payment method on my former (now deleted) Google account for years, and never had issues with automatic renewal of my "Premium Pass" from one mobile game I used to play.

I will contact Google regarding this matter later.

Google permabans accounts immediately for chargebacks

[-] Companion1666@lemmy.world 1 points 10 months ago

google recently refunded me. so far, my account is still active.

[-] Amir@lemmy.ml 2 points 10 months ago

That's different from a bank chargeback.

[-] Companion1666@lemmy.world 0 points 10 months ago

well it was automatically reversed.

[-] NeoNachtwaechter@lemmy.world 30 points 10 months ago

It was successfully deducted, but the service didn't update its validity.

You paid them real money. So they have to answer properly what they did and eventually fix it.

[-] Alby003@lemmings.world 10 points 10 months ago

Switch to firefox with ublock origin. Its more than heaven 🔥🔥

[-] Companion1666@lemmy.world 2 points 10 months ago

I'm on ungoogled-chromium. Librewolf keeps breaking a website I frequently visits.

[-] clegko@lemmy.world 5 points 10 months ago

Librewolf != Firefox, fwiw.

[-] eya@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 points 10 months ago

I haven't encountered these issues with Librewolf. What kind of websites are breaking?

[-] Alby003@lemmings.world 1 points 10 months ago

Its a security certificate issue. It can be solved via about:config. security.OCSP.require set to false
