Your favorite 'New Mythos' or Mythos-Adjacent works? (lemmy.world)

I'like you all here, Im a big HPL fan. I've read and reread everything he put out excluding the letters, and I'm always interested to read other authors works that reference directly or indirectly Lovecrafts mythos. A few personal Favorites are ' A Colder War' by Charles Stross and 'N' by Stephen King. I just can't get enough of esoteric cults, elder gods and Things Man Was Not Meant to Know.

What are your personal Favorites from outside Lovecrafts main body of work?

The Endless (also Resolution) by Justin Benson and Aaron Moorhead.

they’re a bit low-budgety but there’s nothing else on film like them. i love the way the narratives play off of each other (despite being made 6 years apart) and the pacing of information revealed to the audience is masterful.

i don’t see enough people talking about these films!

Totally agree! I did the Leo "pointing at screen with beer" meme when I realised the connection, because I watched the films about two or three years apart.

Have you seen their latest outing, Something in the Dirt? It's a solid film as well, very usual and hooked me right away.

I absolutely have. I discovered the endless about a month ago and have binged just about everything by they’ve made/worked on in the time since. I am really excited to see where they go next - I haven’t been this fanatical about an indie filmmaker since I saw Pi and fell in love with Aronofsky sometime around 1999.

I am not a marvel fan, but I hear great things about their work on Moon Knight and Loki, so I am hopeful they’ll get a proper-budget film in the near future. What they’ve managed to create on essentially pocket change is leagues above anyone in their class, it’s a really extraordinary talent that is rare for filmmakers of their pedigree.

There are many nice works, if i should pick a couple:

Robert W. Chambers book - The King In Yellow

Robert Bloch book- The Opener of the Way

Fritz Leiber’s - The Terror From the Depths

Settler's Wall by Robert Lowndes (a very nice short story)

Neil Gaiman story - A Study in Emerald

I suggest you to check the various anthologies i've posted, you can download most of them from the links.

H.P. Lovecraft's Cthulhu Mythos is a shared universe far larger and more terrifying than that of humanity, where ancient, malevolent beings known as the Great Old Ones slumber in the depths of space or time. After Lovecraft's death, the Mythos has been expanded and developed by many authors, including August Derleth, Clark Ashton Smith, and Robert E. Howard. These and many other authors have helped to flesh out the Mythos into a rich and complex Dark Universe.
