French courts have been imposing disproportionately severe sentences for minor offenses, including 10 months in prison for stealing a can of Red Bull and one year for a homeless boy with schizophrenia caught looting a luxury store. The overwhelmed courts rush cases, provide minimal time for defendants, and prioritize punishment under the instruction of the Justice Minister. Furthermore, the French government is censoring social media and justifying it by claiming to protect public order, but it infringes upon free speech and mirrors tactics used by authoritarian regimes. The justice system exhibits a double standard, favoring the privileged, and creates a class divide, leading to unrest. Ironically, the government compares itself to oppressive nations while undermining democratic principles.

Why does the thumbnail say "Can = 10 years in prison" while the description says "10 months in prison for stealing a can"? This youtuber does not strike me as a particularly trustworthy source of news lol

Even the title here is kinda sus. These aren't protesters, these are looters.

And if you support the protest you should be pissed at the looters, cause these assholes are the ones making everyone look bad.

Hopefully there will be appeals or they will be let go

What should the authorities be doing? Just let people loot?

Maybe they should listen to what the people want instead of shoving shit they don’t want down their throats with no justification.

Getting overthrown for the birth of the sixth republic is the actual answer, I guess.

Uhhhh... What?

They haven't been protesting they have been burning down the cities. Protesting is going on the street with a sign, blocking streets or entrances to buildings... Protesting isn't robbing a luxury store, trashing a supermarket and "only" stealing a can of energy drink, literally hunting a Mayor and his family or in general burning down shit...

Yessir, I do believe that’s called a riot.

A riot is the language of the unheard.

But 10 months for stealing a can if that's true?

If that is true and just for the stealing thats... Problematic, at least.

The riot be the rhyme of the unheard.
