Are no other club trying to move to a bigger ground? I know we're massive, but...

obviously there's the few WSL sides that already use their main ground as well

@Astrealix the challenge is finding land with enough room for a stadium in the area the club is based, and has decent public transit. Arsenal got lucky with Ashburton Grove.

[-] Astrealix@lemmy.world 1 points 10 months ago

I mean, yeah, but most clubs don't play at their main ground anyway. Obviously Man U moving to Old Trafford would be suicide, but surely Chelsea could pack Stamford Bridge, or Liverpool a decent chunk of Anfield or something... (definitely more the former)

[-] thatdosbox@mstdn.ca 2 points 10 months ago

@Astrealix yeah, I'm surprised Chelsea don't play more games there. Wonder if that's by choice because they don't want to play in a half-empty stadium.

[-] Astrealix@lemmy.world 1 points 10 months ago

Surely they could pack it if we can, the Bridge isn't exactly the biggest ground in the world...

@Astrealix far as I can tell, their record attendance there was 38,000, but not clear how many of those were paid.

(edit) averages were much lower: https://www.footballwebpages.co.uk/chelsea-women/attendances/2022-2023

I guess you probably do need the sorta drumrolling campaign we had for the Liverpool game to actually pack a stadium of that size still. Makes sense in all honesty, but hopefully it'll get better soon enough.

Just checked, Chelsea are also playing games at the Bridge, though I can't figure out whether they are planning on moving there long-term from a cursory search.

Love to see it :)

Been meaning to try catch the Arsenal WSL games, but I've barely been able to keep track of the mens side atm

[-] Astrealix@lemmy.world 2 points 10 months ago

I forgot who shared it but there's a calendar from the club that you can use to keep track

[-] nuggsy@lemmy.world 2 points 10 months ago

Thanks! I'll try remember to suss it out

Per BBC's Emma Sanders:

Jonas Eidevall on Gareth Taylor's 'bullying' claims: "I was really disappointed with the comments. There is no truth in them. The wording that Gareth used afterwards is borderline slander. Either he is not very good with the truth or he is not very good with the language."

That is 🥶from Jonas considering he's Swedish

Sky posting the wrongly allowed own goal from Ben White on Twitter with no context and at a time nowhere near the game is absolutely wild

And they say no bias

Just saw this recently, but our own Araya Dennis scored the Women's Championship goal of the month. :)

[-] Astrealix@lemmy.world 2 points 10 months ago

goddamnit Arteta, first I have to agree with Piers Morgan, now Richard Keys? What have you done...

[-] throbbingpens@lemmy.world 2 points 10 months ago

What did Piers Morgan say?

[-] Astrealix@lemmy.world 2 points 10 months ago

i don't remember, don't want to remember stuff he says :P

Unless we win today, which seems unlikely now Sevilla are 1-0 up, we're getting basically knocked out of the UEFA Youth Cup today.

Ali's been dealt a tough hand but cmon now

[-] Astrealix@lemmy.world 2 points 10 months ago

1-1 now, but still looks like almost certainly an exit in the group stage given PSV is winning. Experience for the kids at least.

[-] Astrealix@lemmy.world 1 points 10 months ago

Glad that Copenhagen won but tbh Ten Hag is right that the first goal is an offside

[-] Astrealix@lemmy.world 1 points 10 months ago* (last edited 10 months ago)

Obviously lots of the other stuff is just pure waffle though cuz it's ten hag who's surprised
