Writing this from LemmyWorld because I can't access my lemmy.ml account.

I enabled 2FA and I was told to go down for instructions, yet no instructions were down the page. Days later I was signed out and now I can't log in because it asks for a non-existant 2FA code. How do I sign in? Thanks

I had the same problem here on lemmy.world and was able to get around the lockout by simply clicking the "forgot password" link on the login page and resetting my password via the email link. After that, I immediately went into my account settings and removed 2FA. I honestly can't believe it worked.

Only admins can help you there, since they have access to the database and can clear the 2FA from your account. So your best bet is to contact them

rip

The implementation wasn't clear and your acct is probably gone, sorry. I'd say contact the admins to see if they can do anything but lemmy.ml admins are probably pretty busy

The instructions were there, you just didn’t do the second step which was to refresh the page. It’s a janky way of setting it up for sure, but the green popup notification did have the correct steps.

Your account is most likely lost.

No they weren't there. I use Firefox and when I try to click on the button Firefox says it doesn't know how to open the protocol.

That link contains the hash needed for your OTP generator. It definitely isn't clear but you had to copy the link and paste it to your OTP app instead of clicking on it.
